The Our Dementia Choir announce their first ever single release What’s Your Story?. Recorded at the world famous Abbey Road Studios, the track features vocals from all 16 of the choir members, is conducted by Mark De-Lisser and produced by Rik Simpson (Coldplay). What’s Your Story? is available to pre-save now via Decca Records. Our Dementia Choir Sings Again with Vicky McClure launches Monday 10th Oct at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Vicky McClure (Chair of the Our Dementia Choir charity) and the choir first performed “What’s your story?” at the Power of Music report launch event, hosted by Universal Music UK in King’s Cross on 20 April 2022. The report was co-written by Music for Dementia and UK Music. Vicky McClure (Chair of the Our Dementia Choir charity) says:- “I couldn’t be prouder of every single person who makes Our Dementia Choir what it is. Being able to record a song that gives voice to people living with dementia at the most famous recording studio in the world is an extraordinary achievement, and it’s made even more incredible when you think that the recording was made with people living with dementia. For me, this is the power of music in action and shows just what music can do for people with dementia and their carers when people are given access to it. People are more than their diagnosis. We hope ‘What’s your story’ inspires those living with dementia and those who care for them to know that music is there for them, and that music is a powerful tool they can use to support health and wellbeing. Please stream / download this song, tell friends and family about it! Let’s make some noise!!!” Grace Meadows (Campaign Director, Music for Dementia) says: “Music can have a transformative effect on people living with dementia and few things show the power of music in action better than Our Dementia Choir. It’s a fantastic achievement for the choir to have recorded a song at Abbey Road. It allows choir members to be seen beyond their diagnosis and as talented performers in their own right. Vicky and her remarkable choir have done a brilliant job of bringing the often ignored subject of dementia and its lack of care provision into our living rooms at home. This is why, in our Power of Music report, we called for want to see greater investment in grassroots services in people’s communities so everyone can have access to and experience the powerful health and wellbeing benefits of music. With this single release we hope the choir also managed to raise much needed money to help secure the choir’s future.” Music for Dementia will feature a list of dementia choirs and singing groups on their website for anyone that has seen Our Dementia Choir Sings Again with Vicky McClure and inspired to go along. Part 1 of Our Dementia Choir Sings Again with Vicky McClure will broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Monday 10 October at 9pm and Part 2 on Monday 17 October at 9pm. Four years ago, Vicky McClure formed a choir of people living with dementia, scientifically proving the power of music and song to change the lives of those living with the condition. In the new series, Vicky and her dementia choir are back. And this time they want change. With the growing care crisis, and a lack of action from those in charge, Vicky is angry at the current system and wants to do something about it. And the place to start – making music therapy available to everyone with dementia. Our Dementia Choir Sings Again with Vicky McClure sees the choir and Vicky take matters into their own hands. Some of the members may have changed due to this cruel condition taking its toll, but old faces line up alongside new ones as they use their considerable voices to show those in power that music is vital for people living with dementia. But they need action now, and Vicky is using music to grab the attention of everyone she can. From being the first group of people with dementia to record and release a single at Abbey Road, to performing on-stage at a music festival beside an A-list artist, nothing and no-one will stand in the way of Vicky and the choir in getting their voices heard. Our Dementia Choir is a Nottingham based performing choir which supports and improves the lives of people living with dementia through the power of music. It is a registered charity and is chaired by Vicky McClure. Music for Dementia, founded and funded by The Utley Foundation, campaigns for people with dementia to have music as an integral part of their care whatever their circumstances. Working with over 200 cross sector organisations and groups, we are calling on the music industry, philanthropists, and the health and social care sectors to help make this possible. “100% of The Dementia Choir, Rik Simpson and Decca Records’ Net Revenue from audio streams of this Single and at least 45p per download sold of this Single will be donated to Our Dementia Choir (registered charity number: 1187483) which supports and improves the lives of people living with dementia through the power of music. “Net Revenue” means monies actually received by received by Decca Records in the United Kingdom with respect to the sales (including downloads and streaming) of this Single less the following deductions: (i) distribution fees; (ii) credits for returns; (iii) mechanicals; (iv) VAT and other applicable sales or withholding taxes.” FOLLOW OUR DEMENTIA CHOIR INSTAGRAM || FACEBOOK || TIKTOK || SITE FOLLOW MUSIC FOR DEMENTIA SITE || TWITTER || INSTAGRAM || FACEBOOK

Ellie Goulding has announced her annual charity concert to raise money for London homeless charity “Streets of London”. This year Goulding, who is an ambassador for the charity, will be joined by the likes of Dua Lipa, Bastille, Sigrid, Mabel, Grace Carter, Jax Jones, Dermot Kennedy and many more on stage at Wembley SSE Arena on 20th December. Pre-order tickets here: https://ellie.lnk.to/SOL Since 2014, Global UN Ambassador Ellie Goulding's annual Christmas gig for Streets of London has raised more than £300,000, which has helped the charity to fund dozens of projects that are helping homeless people turn their lives around. Speaking about the concert and her work with Streets of London, Ellie Goulding explains:- “Every year the event we’ve done for Streets of London has been absolutely magical and moving, I know this year will be the greatest yet.” Homelessness is a major problem in London today. On any given night in London, there are likely to be more than 1,000 people sleeping out on the streets (nearly treble the number there were in 2010) many more are in hostels or temporary accommodation and don't have a home to call their own. This can be incredibly damaging, and the average life expectancy of a homeless rough sleeper is just 47 years old. Streets of London are currently funding twelve projects providing specialist support to get people off the streets and make a fresh start. Projects include a winter night shelter for vulnerable rough sleepers, a rehab hostel for people recovering from addictions, also several employment support projects, which help homeless people to look for jobs and then find and keep work. People end up homeless for many different reasons and many need specialist help to get back on their feet and find a secure home. Those who have been homeless can require a lot of different types of support beyond help with securing housing, such as with mental health and addiction issues, understanding their rights, and with building their employability, skills and self-confidence. With the right support, people who are homeless can turn their lives around. There are lots of great charities throughout London that work hard to provide these services; many of them are small and not very well-known and funding can be hard to secure. The UK is one of the wealthiest countries in the world and London one of the wealthiest cities - no one should be spending night after night sleeping on the street. By working together we can make a real difference and help support those who are struggling to get off the streets for good. The involvement of Ellie, and the many stars who have generously supported Streets of London by giving their time and talents, also helps raise awareness about homelessness, particularly among young people, engaging them in the issue and the need to work for change. These kids and their families should never have to suffer financial despair when they're already battling cancer together, and it's an honour to help them out any way we can. We jumped at the chance to join with Angry Birds to bring more awareness and support to TRF and these kids."
