Recently signed to This Feeling Records, Fitzroy Holt’s current single ‘Medicine’ has seen the rising newcomer earn comparisons to the likes of Michael Kiwanuka and Scott Walker. His rootsy cocktail of confessional soul and bluesy garage-rock has taken him to festivals including the Isle of Wight, Truck and The Great Escape this summer, while also landing airplay from BBC Music Introducing. Now Fitzroy adds to his growing acclaim by sharing the video for ‘Medicine’. The video places Fitzroy in his home-from-home setting of Norton’s Bar in Digbeth, where he claims you can get the best Guinness in Brum. Shot in a shadowy, introspective monochrome, it shows him alone in the venue - simultaneously performer, punter and barman. Its loneliness is an apt metaphor for the song, which sees Fitzroy bravely revisiting his experiences suffering with substance abuse. Yet as the song steps into a brighter future, his desolation is cut with fiery live footage of Fitzroy and his band performing at the Isle of Wight Festival. The video was directed and edited by two of Fitzroy’s most trusted collaborators: George Morris, the percussionist from his live band and his regular studio engineer, and Patsy Wesson, the muse who inspired the song’s redemptive spirit. Fitzroy says, “Trying to match and create visuals which married the emotions and themes of the song without being overt and cheesy was no easy feat. I think we shot at least five times more footage than we actually used in the video. We then decided to splice footage from our Isle of Wight performance into it. If you were there you’ll know it was full of passion and energy that added the raw edge the video needed. The video turned out like the song, I guess, a dark ode to love, but a real labour of love also." The ‘Medicine’ video comes as Fitzroy prepares to play a London headline show at St. Pancras Old Church on October 28th. Remaining tickets are available HERE. Fitzroy Holt performed in various rock bands around the Wolverhampton area, but the idea of working as a solo artist first gained traction during the initial lockdown. Living in a semi-derelict factory in the city, the relative isolation of the time resulted in a far more introspective approach in his writing. He debuted with the self-financed release ‘Kelly’ in 2021, which was inspired by the struggles he saw women face while working with the local homeless charity Haven. This Feeling came onboard as his personal champions, leading to a deal with their label earlier this year. His music also took on a richer production with the warmth of his live performance with the backing of his band and by working with producer Gavin Monaghan (Paolo Nutini, Robert Plant, Editors). He’s inspired by artists whose lyrical edge finds the grace between personal experience and pure poetry, including Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Damon Albarn and Yves Tumor. Yet an ethos of recognising and understanding other people’s struggles is also a core aspect of his songwriting style. Björk has unveiled her new single “ovule”; listen here. The fragility of love is explored as she imagines a glass sphere; the expectations within attachment, and the balancing act that forms relationships, are held up so they can be elevated toward a more harmonious future. Watch / share the video here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPr_D-b5v2Q ). The track is taken from her forthcoming album, “fossora”, set for release September 30th via One Little Independent Records. “Ovule for me is my definition of love, it is a meditation about us as lovers walking around this world and I imagine 2 spheres or satellites following us around, one above us that represents ideal love, one below us representing the shadows of love, and we ourselves walk around in the third sphere of real love, where the everyday Monday-morning meet-in-the-kitchen-love lives in” The video is directed by Nick Knight with co-creative direction by Björk with creative consultant and long-time collaborator James Merry. Björk is a multidisciplinary artist who, time and again, innovates across music, art, fashion and technology. From writing, arranging and producing an expansive music catalogue to her collaborations with scientists, app developers, writers, inventors, musicians and instrument makers, Björk continues to inspire and experiment, redefining the boundaries of what it means to be a musician. Special thanks to Alessandro Michele and Gucci for all their help and support in making this video, especially for the collaboration on the stunning dress that Björk wears in the video, and Squarespace for helping in creating special web sites to launch these audio-visual projects. Facebook | Website | Instagram | Spotify | Twitter On November 18th, France's We Are Magonia will release their third full-length, Triangle Unicode, via NewRetroWave Records. With a love of vintage synths, distorted walls of modern detuned synth sounds that almost resemble guitars, and the drive to blend these into something dark and baroque, We Are Magonia sound like no other band you have heard. The three-piece - featuring a unique two synths / one guitar line-up - give fans a first taste of Triangle Unicode today with the new video for "La Crypte": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_rUr7ifFqM Pre-order // pre-save Triangle Unicode here: https://wearemagonia.lnk.to/TriangleUnicode Formed in Lyon, France in 2017, the trio of Fear Collins, Frank Sinistra and Louis De Funeste have released two albums, remixed some classic tracks and put on some unforgettable live shows, and now they return with the riveting Triangle Unicode. "What we do is basically electronic music made by metalheads. Usually our music is a mix between what we have been doing and something new we have discovered and that influences us," they explain. "However, we wanted this album to be a step up. We wanted it more leaning toward the modern electronic music genre, and to be better produced and more efficient." Having been a DIY unit from the beginning, We Are Magonia handle every aspect of their output - composing, recording, mixing, mastering, making most of the artwork, video editing, selling and shipping merch, promotion - and they have built up a substantial following, predominantly in the USA, a country they have yet to set foot in (but they receive endless requests from fans for them to play stateside). Amassing nearly 50k monthly listeners on Spotify and 7 million+ streams overall, We Are Magonia are already making waves; and now with Triangle Unicode - nine tracks driven by pulsating beats and varying from the haunting to the punishing and everything in between - they make a definitive statement that demands attention. https://www.instagram.com/we.are.magonia https://www.youtube.com/c/WeAreMagonia https://twitter.com/wearemagonia https://www.facebook.com/WeAreMagonia https://open.spotify.com/artist/6ZfZ3k4azxmrGfYoJHdJJP?si=TRC0Qy30SKuFqc9gddD02A German dark rock quintet Scarlet Dorn have released a video for their new single 'Meteor'. Björk is unveiling her new single “Atopos” now; listen here. The track is accompanied by a new video, also out now, introducing Björk’s sonic underground world brimming with saturated fungi and bass clarinets. Watch / share the video here. The track is taken from her forthcoming album, “Fossora”, set for release September 30th. The title “Atopos” comes from the Latin word meaning "the other" both loving and in opposition. Born from the last three years living in her home country of Iceland, Björk writes and produces the song’s clarinet arrangements, repeating lyrics like “our differences are irrelevant” and “hope is a muscle” to the backdrop of painted mushrooms and rock formations. "sonically this is a heavy bottom-ended bass world we have 6 bass clarinets and punchy sub drilling, nesting and digging us into the ground" The video is directed by Viðar Logi with co-creative direction by Björk with creative consultant and longtime collaborator James Merry. Their underground world is inspired by digital root plants design from M/M Paris. Additionally, the video includes performances by Kasimyn of Gabber Modus Operandi and clarinet musicians Grímur Helgason, Hilma Kristín Sveinsdóttir, Helga Björg Arnardóttir, Kristín Þóra Pétursdóttir and Rúnar Óskarsson. There comes a time when you have to take control of your own destiny. I think that’s what we did here. “– Decembers Fall Hailing from Hell's Kitchen, New York City, Decembers Fall is a hard-hitting rock band that has quickly gained a dedicated fan base through social media, local radio stations, independent magazines, and live shows consisting mostly of raw fury and emotion. Working with Dennis Sanders (Papa Roach, Static-X) the band has made its way to larger stages in the U.S. During their early years, Decembers Fall spent the majority of their time writing volumes of material, not willing to sell an audience short when it comes to music. This attitude has led them to share the stage with acts including Bobaflex, Mushroomhead, and Red. With the release of their single and the premiere of their video, the band is now focused on the release of their still untitled EP. No release date announced as of yet, although the band has let it be known that next single is already completed and awaiting a release date. Alternative rock outfit Bring the Hoax has joined Lövely Records for the release of their debut, self titled EP. Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, the four piece blends sweet melodies with fuzzed out guitars into colorful, energetic, and dynamic rock music. The first release from the group is the single ”Los Angeles”, which is out now on all streaming platforms together with a music video. Hasse Karlsson from the band comments: "Los Angeles came to life during the spring. We all longed for the everlasting Swedish winter to end and for the summer vibe to arrive. We always dreamed of the perfect roadtrip since the ones in a cold, dark Scandinavia leaves one hoping for more. This is our soundtrack for that roadtrip to come. The lyrics centers around a wish for a summer road trip to Mexico. On a long car ride like that good music is a most essential part of the feeling. Pavement is a perfect fit for this, and that is why Pavement is the first word sung in this song.“It kicks off with a rowdy intro and lands in a soothing verse which builds up towards a luscious and dreamy chorus that is perfectly suited for a summer drive in your car.” The four piece Bring the Hoax infuses indie rock songs with strong fuzzy guitars and delicately sweet melodies. The songs are held together by an unapologetic force that hardly leaves anyone untouched. It's clear that the band members take their influences from the finishing decades of the 20th century. You can hear hints of Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Built to Spill and Smashing Pumpkins to name some. Bring The Hoax is a rowdy, but yet polished and pleasant companion in the world of indie rock. Gritty dynamics are key in the songs of Bring the Hoax and the balance between the dirty and beautiful guitar tones versus the mountains of distortion and fuzz can be heard in pretty much every song they ever written. The lyrics are poetic and tell suggestive tales about politics, relationships and the everyday struggle that is life. “Ever since we were kids we have adored a sweet and catchy melody wrapped in a big fuzzy blanket of guitar distortion” - Hasse Karlsson Karl Nordahl and Hasse Karlsson both grew up in Viksjö, north of Stockholm, Sweden, and were probably destined to become friends since they both were equally unable to resist the mesmerizing pull of the massive soundscapes coming out from the punk-, indie- and grunge-era of the 90s. When they many years later had their apartments just shy of a 100 meters apart, it was time to start making music together. The first light the band name Bring the Hoax saw was of the fluorescent kind in a dark hotel room without windows, in the basement of a cheap bed and breakfast in Rhodos, Greece, in 2010. They asked Mark Petterson (My God Damn Territory, Washing Machina) – who Hasse had played with in a couple of bands and projects earlier - to join them on bass. A bunch of drummers later Mark took the seat himself behind the drums when Sara Engström (Washing Machina, Dag och Natt, Tam Tapir) was able to join on bass. Bring the Hoax has recorded and produced 2 eps during the years prior to the 2022 signing with Lövely Records. Many great things are going to be revealed in the present future. American punks Timeshares sign with Wiretap Records; new single + video "Siren Sound" out now6/6/2022 Philadelphia punks Timeshares have signed with Wiretap Records. The band release its three-song In The Ground EP last year, and have just debuted a new single + video "Siren Sound," which BrooklynVegan describes as, "a fine example of this band's ability to churn out warm, grizzled heartland punk." Bassist (and songwriter) Mike Natoli says:- "I had just moved back to my hometown and got reluctantly dragged to my 10-year high school reunion. While I wasn’t necessarily questioning myself, it still managed to stir up some weird thoughts and feelings about what I was doing with my life. I wanted to write about the subject from the reverse perspective of “A Plea From A Cat Named Virtute” by The Weakerthans and make it a proposition to my golden retriever Buddy. This wild idea that we could trade lives and he could go out on my adventures while I got to blend in with the scenery and not talk to anyone was something that seemed mutually beneficial." Australian pop punk duo 3REE have released a performance video for their new single ‘Set This Place On Fire’, which features guest vocals from Sleeping With Sirens frontman Kellin Quinn. The high energy rock track tackles the pressures of 2022 and the increasing strains on identity, belonging and on longevity of life on the planet. ‘Set This Place On Fire’ finds 3REE bringing their pop laced hooks with hardcore beatdowns to complement the signature alt-metal screaming from Sleeping With Sirens’ Kellin Quinn. Since its release last month, ‘Set This Place On Fire’ has received huge acclaim with the likes of Rock Sound touting it as, “A riotous anthem… dripping in mountain high melodies, soaring riffs and plenty of gritty atmosphere,” while Kerrang championed the track in the Top 10 of their Kerrang Chart. The track has also proved a TikTok hit, with fans creating viral videos sound tracked to the song’s opening bars. About the meaning of the song 3REE vocalist and guitarist Mitch Volcan says:- “We built the song around the lyric ‘When the fire burns out we all come alive’; writing with the aim of connecting with the listener with the sense of rawness, energy and togetherness that you face during dark times.” The duo is completed by drummer Sean Tighe and since the band’s formation in 2019, with the release of their self-titled debut album that year, they have been quick to draw attention from further high profile names in rock. They are managed and mentored by iconic pop punk manager Rick DeVoe, who managed Blink 182 for over 20 years and has worked with New Found Glory, Angels & Airwaves and more. 3REE have also caught the eye of Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and former Panic! At The Disco drummer Spencer Smith. The attention came via a mashup of the band’s tracks 3REE posted on their Instagram, which impressed Pete and Spencer so much it prompted them to reach out to 3REE. A relationship sparked and Pete and Spencer both now also help mentor the Aussie pop punks. 3REE have made a huge statement with ‘Set This Place On Fire’ and the future burns bright for the pair as they gear up for more exciting announcements to follow in 2022. |
