Sony Classical is pleased to announce the signing of renowned German pianist and composer Volker Bertelmann - known as Hauschka - in a new long-term recording contract. The first fruits of this collaboration will herald a return of the artist to his musical origins with an album of melodic solo piano works. The album will be released in early 2019. A composer, songwriter and experimental musician, Hauschka is known as one of today’s leading exponents of prepared piano music. In recent years he has also built a prolific career writing scores for films, coming to international prominence in this field through his soundtrack for the hit film Lion in 2016. Scored in collaboration with Dustin O’Halloran, the soundtrack was nominated for numerous awards including an Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA. Hauschka discovered the prepared piano shortly after the release of his first solo album Substantial and the instrument has been an integral part of his compositional endeavours ever since. His impressive catalogue lies testament to his extensive exploration of possibilities on this instrument, ranging from the spontaneous improvisations of The Prepared Piano (2005), to the electronic sound-worlds of What If (2017). Ever prolific, Hauschka has worked on numerous other projects throughout the last decade, most notably in the fields of film, theatre, dance and classical ensemble works. His recent soundtrack work, in addition to Lion, includes the films In Dubious Battle (2016), Exodus (2016) & Praia do Futuro; music for the new US TV mini-series Patrick Melrose starring Benedict Cumberbatch. He also founded Düsseldorf‘s annual Piano Approximation Festival, which features an always-imposing line-up of internationally renowned experimental artists. Collaborators along the way have included Calexico’s Joey Burns and John Convertino, violinist Hilary Hahn, the Alma Quartet, mandolin player Avi Avital, cellists Nicolas Altstaedt and Jeffrey Zeigler (formerly of the Kronos Quartet) and drummer Samuli Kosminen from Icelandic band múm. In recent years, Hauschka has also composed music for classical orchestras, ensembles and soloists such as the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he was Composer in Residence, Folkwang Chamber Orchestra as well as members of the Munich Philharmonic. Volker Bertelmann says: “I am very proud to announce that I will release my next record with Sony Classical. With this record, I am going full circle and will return to my musical roots, where my music preserves the purity of piano in its natural form. I will continue to explore prepared piano with my existing labels, but my music with Sony will be an expansion of my musical expression.” Managing Director Sony Classical International Per Hauber says: “Volker’s sound musical knowledge and background enabled him to develop his own musical language, which in addition to his great successes as a film music composer, also made him one of the most innovative and sought-after composers of a new and vital classical music scene. At Sony Classical, we look forward with great curiosity and excitement to our joint projects with Volker.” Volker Bertelmann/Hauschka is managed by Redbird Music: http://redbirdmusic.com

Scottish ambient post-prog rock duo Midas Fall - Elizabeth Heaton and Rowan Burn - has unveiled their fourth single, "Dust And Bone" for communal delight. The entrancing tune comes courtesy of the band's impending new full-length, Evaporate, set for release on April. 27th. "Dust And Bone" ratchets up the tension with dark, ominous drones paired with shards of discordant melodies and Heaton's quietly unsettling vocals, rising to a jarring, impassioned climax that reflects the track's themes of inner turmoil. Immerse yourself in "Dust And Bone" at THIS LOCATION where you can also sample the record's title track, "Bruise Pusher," and "Soveraine." Midas Fall's Evaporate will be released worldwide by Monotreme Records on April 27th on CD and digital formats, as well as a limited pressing of 500 LPs on 180-gram vinyl (200 black and 300 clear blue/black). For pre-orders, visit THIS LOCATION. Produced and recorded by Heaton in Argyll, Scotland, Evaporate shimmers with a dark, gothic grace, delicate and brutal in equal measure. From the desperate, savage cacophony of "Bruise Pusher" to the elegant ascension of "Sword To Shield," the record conjures stunning soundscapes at every turn. Combining elements of electronica, post-rock, and alternative with progressive and gothic undertones, Midas Fall has over the course of their existence carved a distinctive and captivating sound, creating taut, shimmering soundscapes led by the hauntingly melancholic vocals of Elizabeth Heaton - a sound described as, "powerful yet fragile, devastatingly beautiful and beautifully devastating" (The Founder Magazine). http://www.midasfall.com http://www.facebook.com/midasfall http://twitter.com/midasfall http://monotremerecords.limitedrun.com http://www.facebook.com/MonotremeRecords Philadelphia's Hop Along return today with 'Prior Things', (listen here - https://youtu.be/6IbBU4QXxD4) the epic closer of their forthcoming new album Bark Your Head Off, Dog, which arrives April 6th on Saddle Creek. This comes after a triumphant SXSW, where the band debuted several new songs to enraptured fans and earned festival highlight accolades from Brooklyn Vegan, Mercury News, Stereogum - who called singer Frances Quinlan “a national treasure“ - and Rolling Stone who raved, “dexterous rhythms as their anchor gives Hop Along a kinetic kick that might not otherwise be heard in their delicate, nimble songs, and while that's enough to separate the band from their peers, the group is also fun to watch because there's a genuine warmth to their banter." Following lead single 'How Simple' and dynamic album cut 'Not Abel,' 'Prior Things' explores the bitter triumph of a relationship that never comes to be. The formidable 9-song collection is the band’s strongest and most cohesive album to date. Crafted by Frances Quinlan (songwriter, lead vocalist, and rhythm guitarist), Tyler Long (bass), Joe Reinhart (guitar), and Mark Quinlan (drums), the album considers what it’s like to cast off long-held and misguided perceptions, yet without the assurance of knowing what new ones will replace them. Quinlan has been meditating a lot on power. In this particular moment in history, this thought begs a greater question: what do we do with power and the men who so freely brandish it?
Self-produced and recorded at The Headroom in Philadelphia by Reinhart and Kyle Pulley, Bark Your Head Off, Dog features the familiar sounds that have always made the band allergic to genre: grunge, folk, punk, and power pop all appear, with inspiration from ELO to Elvis Costello to ‘70s girl group vocal arrangements. This time around, they’ve added strings, more intricate rhythms, lush harmonies (featuring Thin Lips’ Chrissy Tashjian), along with a momentary visit with a vocoder. In more than one place, Mark Quinlan drums like he’s at a disco with Built to Spill. Bark Your Head Off, Dog is, without question, Hop Along’s most dynamic and textured record yet. Miraculously surviving the shipwreck, which took the lives of some of his fellow musicians, he lost his possessions, career and his marriage. For the sake of his young daughter, Antimo moved to the UK to re-build his life, taking a waiter’s job in order to provide for them. A remarkable chain of events led to him becoming pianist-in-residence at the Victoria & Albert Museum’s Café, where he finally found time to document musically the extraordinary events of the past few years. Magnotta’s courage, artistry and inspirational story-telling are all evident in his latest album: Inner Landscape. Inner Landscape has been created to reflect Antimo’s emotions both during and in the wake of the Costa Concordia disaster. The album is his tribute to those lost aboard the Costa Concordia, projecting both his thoughts and conveying the scene he saw around him. The London-based three-piece Benin City, comprised of vocalists Joshua Idehen and Shanaz Dorsett with multi-instrumentalist Tom Leaper, today share a video for their current single, "Final Form". The track is taken from their upcoming album, Last Night, which will be an ode to London's nightlife, set for release via Moshi Moshi Records on June 15th 2018. Joshua said the following about the video: "Our last video for "All Smoke, No Fire" was in memory of all the clubs that have shut in the last five years, so we wanted our next video to celebrate the mainstream and alternative scenes still thriving in London. Working with George Bushaway, we crafted a narrative of two clubbers working up the courage to lose themselves in three very different dance-floors: Lindy hopping with Swing Patrol in Holborn, Jungle/Garage raving in Fire down Vauxhall, and a soca night at Ruby Blue, Leicester Square". About the track itself he continued: "I once went to Zoo Bar in the west end with a poet I really fancied. It was a Saturday night and neither of us drank but we felt like dancing. They were playing soulful house (this was way back in the noughties). Spurring and daring each other on, we started with the running man and ended up at last orders, dripping in the worst sweat, making up entirely new dance moves, downing large glasses of tap water. She, a Dragonball Z fan, kept saying, “nah, you haven’t seen my Final Form. Next song I will be over 9000”. Obviously, that stuck with me." Watch / share the video HERE. Following a sold out show at London's The Waiting Room, which was a boundary-pushing performance combining spoken word and music, Benin City are currently at SXSW in Austin, Texas to play 4 shows including one for BBC Radio 1, details of which are below. The band will also perform at The Lock Tavern in London on 31st March. Their live dates are as follows: 14th Mar (9pm): USA, Austin, Texas: SXSW, Esther's Follies 16th Mar (4.30pm): USA, Austin, Texas: SXSW, Flatstock Stage 17th Mar (2pm): USA, Austin, Texas: SXSW, British Music Embassy @ SXSW Presents, Latitude 30 17th Mar (1am): USA, Austin, Texas: SXSW, BBC Radio 1 @ British Music Embassy @ SXSW Presents, Latitude 30 31st March: UK, London: Lock Tavern 8th June: UK, London: Poetry and Lyrics Festival with Cerys Matthews 9th August: UK, Winchester: Boomtown Festival Clubbing is a source of euphoria: a weekly, often daily escape, a respite from the grind. That culture and its landmarks – some of London’s best venues and many countless pubs - are slowly disappearing for good. On the band’s record, due for release in June, Benin City's narrators draw on the last decade of their collective experiences as ravers, bar workers and observers and take an album-long look at the nature of London’s nightlife.Read an interview with the band over at Noisey here. Following the untimely death of David Bowie on 10 January 2016, a groundswell of opinion surfaced in Buckinghamshire, England to celebrate his art in a permanent way, in recognition of the history he had with music club Friars Aylesbury. He performed the world debuts of two of the most iconic albums of the 20th century, ‘Hunky Dory’ and ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’, at Friars Aylesbury in 1971/72. He formed the Spiders from Mars in the tiny Friars dressing room and referenced Aylesbury Market Square in the first line of ‘Five Years’. “Pushing through the Market Square so many mothers sighing” Following a Kickstarter campaign, Aylesbury Market Square will become home to the world’s first sculpture of Bowie which will be unveiled at 2.00pm on Sunday 25 March. When the Kickstarter campaign finished in December 2016, one of the backers Alex Laurent, suggested changing the name of Aylesbury to Aylesbowie. David Stopps of Friars Aylesbury, the brains behind the campaign, thought this was a brilliant idea, and looked into the history and origins of the town’s name. It turns out that the town name is of Old English origin. Its first recorded name Æglesburgh is thought to mean "Fort of Ægel", presumably relating to the Iron Age hill fort that was discovered in the town centre, though who Ægel was is not recorded. Since earliest records there have been 57 variations of the town’s name, so changing the name to Aylesbowie would simply be the 58th. David Bowie obviously has a much more credible claim to the name of the town than some long forgotten and unknown Anglo-Saxon. Naming the town after him, along with the Earthly Messenger sculpture, will be a permanent celebration and commemoration of his life and work. The Friars Aylesbury team have started a petition to change the name at change.org (which can be viewed here). After the Earthly Messenger unveiling on March 25th at 2.00pm there will be a statue fundraiser concert at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, with Marillion, Howard Jones and John Otway who all hale from the Aylesbury area. Tickets are available here or from Ticketmaster. Sweden's Seinabo Sey releases new single "I Owe You Nothing" and B-Side "Remember" ft. Jacob Banks18/3/2018 "I figured it's time I stand up for myself and this is my best way of doing that. I'm so looking forward to singing for you guys again" - Seinabo Sey on "I Owe You Nothing" Seinabo Sey has announced her new single "I Owe You Nothing" and accompanying b-side "Remember ft. Jacob Banks" both are now available to buy and stream on all platforms. This announcement marks Seinabo Sey's first new music in over two years since the release of her critically acclaimed debut album "Pretend" in 2015, which TIME magazine called "One of the Year's Best Debut Albums" and SPIN named one of the Best Albums of 2015. The video for lead single, "I Owe You Nothing" premiered via The FADER earlier today and is available to watch now: https://SeinaboSey.lnk.to/IOweYouNothingVideo Listen to/Share "I Owe You Nothing" and "Remember" HERE Seinabo has once again teamed up with close friend and producer MagnusTheMagnus (aka Magnus Lidehäll) as well as previous collaborators Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir plus her friend Isak Alverus - the result is a defiant and rousing brand of soulful, relentlessly catchy multi-genre pop. The new music sees Seinabo crafting songs revolving around the issues about which she has been vocal on social media and in her enchanting live performances: womanhood and feminism, identity, body positivity and an adherence to loving yourself. Pushing her art to the next level, Seinabo has taken much of the creative direction for the new record into her own hands, spending the past few months in Gambia (her father's home country) to film music videos and shoot a plethora of breathtaking new images which encompass her new direction. In the "I Owe You Nothing" video, Seinabo blends the rich, bright colours of local fabrics with confidence that is evident throughout, she explains "I figured it's time I stand up for myself and this is my best way of doing that." Seinabo Sey rose to critical acclaim in 2015 following the release of two EPs and her debut album 'Pretend'. The album was certified gold in Sweden, earned her a 2015 Swedish Grammy Award for Best Newcomer (winning Best Pop the following year too) and a P3 Gold Award for Artist of the Year, as well as the European Border Breaker Award in 2016. Seinabo spent three years around the release of the album touring the globe, stunning audiences with her expressive, soulful voice seeing her play festivals like Way Out West, Glastonbury and Roskilde as well as TV performances on Late Night with Conan O'Brien in the US and Later… with Jools Holland in the UK. Seinabo Sey will be releasing more music this year and will also be performing at Stockholm's 12,000-capacity Globe Arena on Friday 5 October - tickets available to buy now.
