Romanian singer-songwriter Sorana celebrates her “Happy Birthday Sadness" with new single10/10/2022 In honour of her recent birthday, multi-platinum singer-songwriter Sorana has shared her new single, ‘Happy Birthday Sadness’ available now at all DSPs and streaming services. Produced by Yonatan “Johnny” Goldstein (Black Eyed Peas, Flo Rida) and Nicki Adamsson (Charli XCX, Tove Lo), and co-written by Soranawith JHart (Troye Sivan, Why Don’t We), Goldstein, and Adamsson, the infectious pop track is accompanied by an official music video now streaming at YouTube HERE. "Birthday songs are always happy but I’ve always felt kinda melancholic on my birthday especially at my party when my friends bring out the cake and say ‘make a wish’ because in that moment I think of everything that is missing. I moved from country to country so many times that no matter what, I always end up missing someone on my birthday. Song writing is my therapy and having recently celebrated, I wanted to write a dramatic birthday song to express a feeling I’m sure a lot of people have felt,” Sorana tells PAPER. “It’s not always popping champagne, eating cake and laughing with your friends. Sometimes you’re alone or surrounded by the wrong people, away from your family, or lover or maybe you just want to cry at midnight. ‘Happy Birthday Sadness’ is a song for anyone who has ever felt the loneliest on what’s supposed to be our happiest day." Sorana kicked off 2022 with ‘redruM,’her explosive collaboration with superstar DJ / producer David Guetta, now boasting over 25.8M global audio streams. Watch the dark and twisted music video – which sees Sorana haunting the halls of a Shining-style hotel with glowing blue braids, evoking her Sailor Moon obsession – HERE. Soon after, Sorana followed ‘redruM’ with the release of her debut solo single, ‘Karaoke’ which POPDUST called “stunning,” praising the song as an “epic heartbreaker ready for arenas.” ‘Happy Birthday Sadness’ also follows Sorana’s energetic and innovative summer anthem, ‘Wild Girls,’ which features an interpolation of the legendary composer Ennio Morricone’s ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’ theme, directly approved by the Morricone family, marking the first time the historic composition has been used in a major pop song. Named by PEOPLE as one of “The Talented Emerging Artists Making Their Mark in 2022,” Sorana left her hometown of Romania and brought her dream to life with ambition, determination, and good old-fashioned hustle. The wildly gifted, LA-based songstress has swiftly gone from penning multi-platinum hits including the chart-topping, RIAA platinum-certified “Takeaway (Feat. Lennon Stella)” for The Chainsmokers & Illenium, and the BRIT Award-nominated, platinum-certified, “Heartbreak Anthem” for Galantis, David Guetta, & Little Mix, which hit #3 in the UK, to co-writing “Beg For You” for Charli XCX & Rina Sawayama, which reached #1 on UK Airplay charts, and both co-writing and lending her voice to Alan Walker’s “Lost Control (Feat. Sorana),” which has generated over 120Mworldwide streams and counting. Now with a string of remarkable solo releases and more unique and powerful pop music on the horizon, Sorana continues to cement her status as a major new artist and unstoppable pop force to be reckoned with. Alyusha (pronounced ‘Ali-usher’) is the progressive vocalist, writer and producer who today shares the first song “Cracks” from her upcoming “Little God” EP. Born to Japanese & Romanian / Irish parents, Alyusha has a rich musical heritage, which as a producer she combines with her influence of industrial, city sonic landscapes. This combination of influences creates a futuristic and sometimes jarring sound, juxtaposing light and dark with provoking songwriting. Since her second single "Paradise" with Linden Jay charted at Number 2 on Spotify’s ‘Global Viral Charts’, she’s toured Europe alongside working on new material in the studio, collaborating with other artists and spent some time in Tokyo where she immersed herself and collected sounds from the city. One of the artists that the progressive, classically trained musician collaborated with is Warp’s “ghetto futuristic artist” Gaika where she features on and co-produced “The Deal”. “Cracks” has a smooth yet experimental interplay between formation and demolition delivered by her soothing vocals, effortlessly malleable in character with a sound that while soul-infused orbits around the fascinatingly cold decaying tones of jarred Hip Hop and a unique R&B hybrid. Alyusha doubles down the attack with lyrics that tackle emotion and personal subjects with a lawless attitude. Discussing Japanese philosophical ideologies such as ‘wabi sabi (embracing the imperfect) and ‘kintsugi’ (the ancient art form of mending cracks with gold paint in pottery). This symbolises the belief that only something that has been broken has the potential to transform in to becoming something more beautiful. While lyrically her vocals are lucid and inviting; the grimy production on her first cut of 2018 transfers its tough and unforgiving strength to the listener.
