Björk releases her tenth studio album, and first in five years, "Fossora", via One Little Independent Records; stream / listen to the album here. "Fossora", a word created by Björk, is the feminised version of the Latin word for “digger,” and a reflection on roots, grounding, love, and family in the context of an underground mushroom world. The album is produced by Björk and recorded by Bergur Thorisson. The new album finds Björk nesting at home in Iceland through the pandemic long enough to set down roots - both literally in her hometown Reykjavík and symbolically. While Björk’s last album, 2017’s critically acclaimed Utopia, was a city in the clouds, Fossora is the sonic opposite: an earth-focused, natural eco-system of bass clarinets and punchy sub-bass.
“Each album always starts with a feeling that I try to shape into sound, this time around the feeling was landing on the earth and digging my feet into the ground (after my last album utopia which was all island in the clouds element air and no bass). It was also woven into how I experienced the "now" this time around 7 billion of us did it together nesting in our homes quarantining being long enough in one place that we shot down roots. My new album "Fossora" is about that, it is a word I made up, it is the feminine of fossore (digger, delver, ditcher) so in short it means "she who digs" (into the ground), so sonically it is about bass, heavy bottom-end, we have 6 bass clarinets and punchy sub, Björk” The album features contributions from serpentwithfeet; Björk’s son, Sindri, and daughter, Ísadóra; clarinet sextet Murmuri; The Hamrahlíð Choir; Emilie Nicolas; Kasimyn of Gabber Modus Operandi; sideproject; El Guincho; many of Björk’s Icelandic acoustic musical collaborators; and bass clarinets, strings, trombones and more. The album also deals with legacy, with two tracks paying tribute to her late mother, Hildur Rúna Hauksdóttir, who died in 2018. Björk is a multidisciplinary artist who, time and again, innovates across music, art, fashion, and technology. From writing, arranging, and producing an expansive music catalog to her collaborations with scientists, app developers, writers, inventors, musicians, and instrument makers, Björk continues to inspire and experiment, redefining the boundaries of what it means to be a musician. Björk has unveiled her new single “ovule”; listen here. The fragility of love is explored as she imagines a glass sphere; the expectations within attachment, and the balancing act that forms relationships, are held up so they can be elevated toward a more harmonious future. Watch / share the video here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPr_D-b5v2Q ). The track is taken from her forthcoming album, “fossora”, set for release September 30th via One Little Independent Records. “Ovule for me is my definition of love, it is a meditation about us as lovers walking around this world and I imagine 2 spheres or satellites following us around, one above us that represents ideal love, one below us representing the shadows of love, and we ourselves walk around in the third sphere of real love, where the everyday Monday-morning meet-in-the-kitchen-love lives in” The video is directed by Nick Knight with co-creative direction by Björk with creative consultant and long-time collaborator James Merry. The track is accompanied by a new video, also out now, introducing Björk’s sonic underground world brimming with saturated fungi and bass clarinets. Watch / share the video here. The track is taken from her forthcoming album, “Fossora”, set for release September 30th. The title “Atopos” comes from the Latin word meaning "the other" both loving and in opposition. Born from the last three years living in her home country of Iceland, Björk writes and produces the song’s clarinet arrangements, repeating lyrics like “our differences are irrelevant” and “hope is a muscle” to the backdrop of painted mushrooms and rock formations. "sonically this is a heavy bottom-ended bass world we have 6 bass clarinets and punchy sub drilling, nesting and digging us into the ground" The video is directed by Viðar Logi with co-creative direction by Björk with creative consultant and longtime collaborator James Merry. Their underground world is inspired by digital root plants design from M/M Paris. Additionally, the video includes performances by Kasimyn of Gabber Modus Operandi and clarinet musicians Grímur Helgason, Hilma Kristín Sveinsdóttir, Helga Björg Arnardóttir, Kristín Þóra Pétursdóttir and Rúnar Óskarsson. Rolo Tomassi hare never a band to stand still, and can now announced 'Closer (The Edits)' EP, set for release on 5th August. The EP contains newly edited versions of the bands single 'Closer', which is taken from from their critically acclaimed album 'Where Myth Becomes Memory' that was released back in February earlier this year. The band teamed up with Daniel Avery and ATTLAS and Ki Oni & Luke Elliot for the new edits, and release the Daniel Avery edit today, June 9th, on all DSP's. On working this edit and remix project, the band said: "It was great to get the opportunity to have an artist like Daniel Avery produce this edit of the track. We're big fans of his own work so jumped at the chance to have him work on it. Similarly with ATTLAS, who has taken take 'Closer' and opened it up to a whole new audience with his incredible remix. It's just so exciting to hear these other artists take elements from our signwriting and make something entirely new." A little about first collaborator, Daniel Avery: Over the last decade Daniel Avery has cemented a worldwide reputation as one of the most original artists in contemporary electronic music. The release of the seminal debut Drone Logic in 2013 — an album defined by mentor Andrew Weatherall as “gimmick-free machine funk of the highest order” — is a record that still makes its presence felt today. A collaboration with synth master and Nine Inch Nails member Alessandro Cortini spawned the full length Illusion Of Time. The latest albums Together in Static and Love + Light formed sister releases during lockdown and were further proof still of Avery’s range, delicacy and skill as a producer. A self-confessed late-starter to the world of dance floors, instead lured by the guitars of The Stooges and My Bloody Valentine during his teens, over time Avery became fascinated by the expansive possibilities of sound design and refined a beautifully brutal style distinctly his own.

The video comes in to further extend the impressive visuals that Charli has delivered in this era with cohesion and consistency, under the creative direction of Imogene Strauss and Choreography from Nathan Kim. American experimentalist Siiickbrain shares love letter to anti-depressants with new single "Zombie"24/10/2021 Experimental rock artist Siiickbrain has released her latest single “Zombie”. The track pairs the artist’s unique blend of seductive singing and profoundly personal lyrics. “Zombie is a love song that I wrote about my antidepressants while I was withdrawing from them earlier this year," she shares on the track that covers her take on prescription drug culture in America. The accompanying video displays x-rated dancing in an extra-terrestrial manner, is available to view today at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJVUC06ALw. Siiickbrain is the musical persona of Caroline Miner Smith. She grew up in a rural town and was always drawn to music but was afraid to dive in fully. While establishing herself as a highly desired model in New York City, Caroline started writing poetry as a means to cope with her own anxiety and personal demons. Siiickbrain has had a busy 2021, teaming up with artists like Hawthorne Heights to remix the iconic emo-rock anthem “Ohio Is For Lovers”, Russian protest art collective Pussy Riot to unleash an electrifying anthem “POWER”, which drives home the idea that women can take back any power that was ever taken from them. Inspired by her favourite movie Fight Club, the music video showcases an all-female cast of bright, young rising stars like Phem, Chloe Chaidez and more fighting it out, highlighting the raw power of women. She joined Machine Gun Kelly in his musical film Downfalls High. Siiickbrain also rounded out an incredible trio including Skrillex and Swae Lee on their propulsive track “Too Bizarre.” Be sure to follow Siiickbrain on social media for more new music soon. Now he is set to release his debut solo album “Dream State Treasure” in October 2021 via tran-si-ent. The first track from the album, ‘The Devil’s Son’ – is available now, listen HERE. Von Ryper says:- “This track wouldn’t exist without the assistance of a dream. I simply awoke with a clear understanding of how to reproduce an existing song that I was struggling with. What I awoke with, in my mind, was a much slower, more soulful song, and played on the piano, not guitar It then became the overall essence of the album. Sometimes there are milestone songs that are integral to the feel of the whole, and this became the essence of the entire record to me. I honestly think it was the track that made me fully realize that I now had the album I wanted to make - I now had a north star for everything .” ‘Dream State Treasure’ was primarily recorded and mixed in Von Ryper’s home studio between 2018 – 2020. He utilized the break from touring, and the isolation of 2020 to explore sonic themes that he had experimented with early in his career when still recording on a 4-track. Now producing them on a much grander scale, he played most of the instruments, and recorded, produced and mixed the majority of the record himself, with additional input from Los Angeles engineer Norm Block, who also played drums on the record. On finishing the album, Von Ryper said:- “I knew that if I didn’t finish it in 2020 after being given the gift of so much time, that I would never do it. Telling people that you’re still working on your solo record year-after-year for a few years has a healthy sense of shame to it”, adding “and shame is a great motivator.” ‘Dream State Treasure’ will be released in October 2021 on vinyl, and digitally via all major music services. Von Ryper will be touring Europe in November with The Jesus And Mary Chain. Today, Willow has released a performance video of her track, 'Lipstick', from her recently released new album, "Lately I Feel EVERYTHING" (MSFTSMusic / Roc Nation). It follows the official music video for her explosive single 't r a n s p a r e n t s o u l (ft. Travis Barker)', which was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award last week in the 'Best Alternative' category. Willow has also announced U.S. tour dates supporting Billie Eilish. Willow will join the tour on February 3rd in New Orleans, Louisiana. Highlights include two nights at Madison Square Garden in New York City on February 18th and 19th and The Forum in Los Angeles on April 8th. Willow will also play Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas on Friday, September 17th. More Willow tour dates will be announced soon. "Lately I Feel EVERYTHING" features Travis Barker, Avril Lavigne, Tierra Wack, Cherry Glazer and Ayla Tesler-Mabe. “'Lately I Feel EVERYTHING' is a musical expression of trying to perceive both joy and pain through an equally compassionate and playful lens,” says Willow. Of the 11 tracks on the album, Willow had previously released singles, 'Lipstick', pop punk anthem, 'Grow' and the explosive 't r a n s p a r e n t s o u l (ft. Travis Barker)'. In the time since its release, 't r a n s p a r e n t s o u l ( ft. Travis Barker)' has amassed 145 million streams globally and became Willow’s first Hot 100 entry, the song currently #12 on the Alternative Chart. All songs on "Lately I Feel EVERYTHING", were written by Willow with production and co-writing on select tracks from her long-time collaborator Tyler Cole. The album was recorded in Los Angeles at Conway Studios with additional drums by Matt Chamberlain. Willow plays guitar throughout. At only 20 years old, Willow has spent half her life in the music industry. With "Lately I Feel EVERYTHING, a decade of growth both in the industry and as a young woman come to a head. Her album is a love letter to that constant evolution. She began working on the record in 2020, during the pandemic. With all the extra time on her hands at home, she began recording demos that she would later re-record when she felt like she could safely enter a studio. It was a new process for her, born out of caution, but it helped her capture the rawness of her new sound. On the record, Willow channels the pop-punk and emo heroes she adored as a teenager, like Avril Lavigne, My Chemical Romance and Paramore. “I thought this was a really dope outlet for a new energy I wanted to bring to my music,” she says. 't r a n s p a r e n t s o u l (ft. Travis Barker)' was originally unveiled via Beats1’s Zane Lowe as a New Music Daily and has since garnered both critical praise and commercial success. “Smith’s song doesn’t so much make the case for Black women in pop-punk as much as it serves as a reminder that we’ve always been here,” said Jezebel. “It’s a pop-punk banger for the ages.” WILLOW recently performed the single on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Watch here. FOLLOW WILLOW ON Following twenty albums over 50 years, Yoko Ono's Warzone is strikingly different from any record she has made previously, but it is also strikingly different from any album that anyone is making... Yoko revisits and re-imagines 13 songs from her past work, spanning 1970-2009, the lyrics and messages still pertinent—perhaps even more pertinent—in 2018. "The world is so messed up. Things are very difficult for everybody. It's a warzone that we are living in..." says Ono. "I like to create things in a new way. Every day things change." The recordings and arrangements on Warzone are very stripped down, with a particular emphasis on Yoko's voice and lyrics. Here in this minimalist landscape the content of her message rings clear and unencumbered; sometimes somber warnings, sometimes uplifting encouragement, but her wisdom and fortitude are unflinchingly strong, her power having intensified with time and life experience. She ends the ominous questions of "Now Or Never" (1971) with one of her most famous and inspiring lines: "[a] Dream you dream alone is only a dream, but dream we dream together is reality." Warzone further builds the legacy of an artist unparalleled in her unique and singular vision. At 85 years young, Ono is already plotting her next album... It is not too late to change the world. We need Yoko now more than ever. Warzone will be in stores on October 19 on Chimera Music, the label run by Sean Ono Lennon. Leading up to the release date, Yoko will releasing a new song each Tuesday on her website ImaginePeace.com and on streaming services. Alyusha (pronounced ‘Ali-usher’) is the progressive vocalist, writer and producer who today shares the first song “Cracks” from her upcoming “Little God” EP. Born to Japanese & Romanian / Irish parents, Alyusha has a rich musical heritage, which as a producer she combines with her influence of industrial, city sonic landscapes. This combination of influences creates a futuristic and sometimes jarring sound, juxtaposing light and dark with provoking songwriting. Since her second single "Paradise" with Linden Jay charted at Number 2 on Spotify’s ‘Global Viral Charts’, she’s toured Europe alongside working on new material in the studio, collaborating with other artists and spent some time in Tokyo where she immersed herself and collected sounds from the city. One of the artists that the progressive, classically trained musician collaborated with is Warp’s “ghetto futuristic artist” Gaika where she features on and co-produced “The Deal”. “Cracks” has a smooth yet experimental interplay between formation and demolition delivered by her soothing vocals, effortlessly malleable in character with a sound that while soul-infused orbits around the fascinatingly cold decaying tones of jarred Hip Hop and a unique R&B hybrid. Alyusha doubles down the attack with lyrics that tackle emotion and personal subjects with a lawless attitude. Discussing Japanese philosophical ideologies such as ‘wabi sabi (embracing the imperfect) and ‘kintsugi’ (the ancient art form of mending cracks with gold paint in pottery). This symbolises the belief that only something that has been broken has the potential to transform in to becoming something more beautiful. While lyrically her vocals are lucid and inviting; the grimy production on her first cut of 2018 transfers its tough and unforgiving strength to the listener. Check out “Cracks” (Listen here) and stay tuned for more from “Little God” EP https://www.facebook.com/alyusha.official/ |
