Dead Soul Revival is a hard rock/post grunge band from Los Angeles formed in 2020 by vocalist / guitarist Matt Clark and drummer Scott Freak (both formerly of Freakhouse) and bassist Kendall Clark who have spent the last few years writing and recording their debut album Ignite set for release worldwide via Sliptrick Records. The groups name comes from being at a low point but having the strength and hope to be alive again. The music of Dead Soul Revival is a blend of heavy guitars, powerful drums, and electronics. The lyrics are heartfelt and inspired with Matt Clark’s soaring vocals and Les Paul bringing the songs vibe and attitude all at once. Add in Kendall’s thick, melodic bass lines holding down the bottom end and Scott’s thundering tribal rhythms and you have the recipe for a band to be reckoned with. Paul Dillon from Portumna, Co. Galway in Ireland is solo artist named pMad. Following a path of introspection with a unique view of the world & what we are doing to ourselves and the planet! Paul has played in bands The Suicidal Dufflecoats, Starve The Barber to The Greeting & now pMad. He recorded his first album in the middle of a pandemic and it was created from Ireland, in collaboration with Germany (Protonaut Studio) & Mexico (Elith Mastering Labs) without ever being in the same room together. “If The Cult and The Mission had a child this is what it would sound like. If you are looking for something new yet still with that old school goth, then here you go, this is the one for you. A colossal & passionate alternative dark brooding alt rock, masterpiece, blends, crashing guitars pounding drums, stirring vocals, with a controlled intense passion that builds beautifully.” Band links: Official Website | Facebook | Youtube | Instagram | On Sliptrick Hailing from Boise, Idaho, Lieform is a four-piece rock band made up of J Arancivia (Drums), Tony Alber (Guitar, Vocals), Forest Stewart (Bass) and TC Armstrong (Guitar, Vocals). Lieform are heavily influenced by many different genres, and not just of rock n roll. Their eclectic tastes lead to the perfect amalgamate of classic rock, 90’s grunge and 00’s bounce, taking their listener on a journey through roller-coaster dynamics, nostalgia-inducing shred-ridden solos, and powerful, thought-provoking lyrics. Heavy grooves, unique arrangements, volatile lyrical content and angry, searing leads mix seamlessly, making no subtle demonstration as to the panorama of influences driving these Pacific Northwest musicians. Lieform are ready to show the world a new, old music that we hadn’t yet realized we were waiting to hear; evoking raw, visceral emotion, all while being taken on a journey through a genre-bending, thought-provoking landslide of sound and energy. Transcending genre consistently to bring the audience a large experience that is at times dark and reflective, yet at others bright and fun, Lieform are built for the large crowds and could possibly be the next band to redefine the term arena rock. Band links: Official Website | Facebook | Youtube | Instagram | On Sliptrick Greek atmospheric heavy rockers Burn The Sun have signed with Sliptrick Records. Hailing from Athens, Greek band Burn The Sun were formed when brothers Stamatis and Aggelos Spyropoulos came together with their childhood friend Fotis Maragkos and started playing music under the Athenian sun. With Aggelos setting the rhythm with his drums, Stamatis positioning himself behind the mic and, together with Fotis, trading licks and riffs on their guitars, the new group found common ground in their shared influences from the Seattle and Palm Desert rock scenes of the 90’s, as well as their love for the acts that personify the 60’s and 70’s ethos like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. With the assistance of various close friends filling in for the bassist spot, Burn The Sun began performing psychedelic heavy rock shows all over Greece. Distilling all of their early experiences, they initially recorded a self-titled demo tape in 2012 followed by the EP Crack Of Dawn (2014), which was recorded live at Unreal Studios in order to capture the energy of their live shows. Burn The Sun continued to expand their musical influences and their thirst for experimentation and so in Spring of 2018, they once again entered Unreal Studios with the aim of evolving their personal musical identity. The results of these endeavours will be heard on the atmospheric, heavy and ambitious sounds of their debut album Le Roi Soleil, set for release in 2022 via Sliptrick Records. Burn The Sun are:
Official Website | Facebook | Youtube | Instagram | On Sliptrick Season of Mist are proud to announce the signing of VÉVAKI! The Nordic folk outfit will release their second album ‘Fórnspeki’ via Season of Mist in the fall of 2022. In celebration of the signing, and to provide a taste of things to come, the band now release a first new track already! The song "Jötnablót", which is accompanied by an official music video, can now be viewed via the official Season of Mist YouTube channel HERE. The track can be pre-saved HERE. The links may be freely spread throughout your channels. VÉVAKI comment on the signing: "We are beyond thrilled to join the Season of Mist family. To be a part of a label that respects artistic freedom and encourages artists to be themselves is all we could ever hope for. We cannot wait to continue with our ritualistic creations, and to share our vision with the world." Originally a solo project by singer and multi-instrumentalist Will Hunter, VÉVAKI is a folk band which draws from Nordic heathenism and animistic traditions. Myth, ritual and a connection with the natural world inform VÉVAKI’s music, which is both contemporary in sound and wide-ranging in instrumentation. Debut album ‘Edda’ came in 2020 when VÉVAKI was a still a solo project, although Sigurboði Grétarsson and Florian Baudrain made contributions. Taking a collection of Old Norse poetry – the Poetic Edda – as its source material, ‘Edda’ breaths new life into these stories through its musical journey, at once beautiful and hypnotically heady. VÉVAKI’s second album, ‘Fórnspeki’, finds the band expanding upon their sound while staying true to their folk roots and traditions. Sigurboði Grétarsson has joined VÉVAKI as a full-time member, as has Gísli Gunnarsson and Hrafnhildur Inga Guðjónsdóttir. The new material is, says Will, broader and more mature sounding. Will notes:- “VÉVAKI is very much based in our modern heathen tradition. Sigurboði and I had been playing music for a while and we have used music as part of our personal spiritual practise. We had worked on some songs together but they were very much personal. Then we had a jam session in this cave in Iceland and afterwards we tried to record a song. I asked if Sigurboði would feature on it and he said yes, thankfully. Then I went home and used my home recording equipment to do a song which we sent to Danheim (Danish folk musician) and he put me on his online record label. And that’s how VÉVAKI started. We did a full album from there. Sigurboði featured heavily on it, even though he wasn’t in the band in any official capacity. But he did lots of drums and vocals and stuff like that.” VÉVAKI employ various stringed instruments and percussion throughout their music, its dynamics buoyed by the complementary vocal styles of Will, Sigurboði and Hrafnhildur and the cinematic soundscapes sculpted by Gísli Gunnarsson. This comes to the fore on ‘Fórnspeki’. “We decided to go a bit bigger,” says Will. “We started working on the second album and we brought in Gísli, and the sound has changed quite a bit, I think. It’s much more mature now. In my opinion, Gísli is the glue that holds us together. He comes from a modern classical background. And Hrafnhildur was an obvious choice, to add an important female dynamic. Her voice has a healing quality to it, I think, and that’s a big thing with the new album.” Ritual and spiritual practises provide a structure to ‘Fórnspeki’. “Our practice is very animistic,” says Will. “But you don’t have to be a super spiritual person to feel some sort of connection to nature. And we just hope that whoever is listening finds that our music brings some sort of connection for them. Sigurboði adds “‘Fórnspeki’ was composed around this concept of the ritual and of the performance. There will be a performance and ritual on stage, because that’s how the songs are imagined. And some of the songs came from rituals that we’ve done or have spawned from the rituals. For example, the song ‘Dísablót’ is based around a ritual that we would do. It’s got lots of chants in there that we would do and we hope that other people might be inspired. On this new album we have a lot of original lyrics. But it’s both based in the myth and the practice. It’s not all about the gods but also about the worship and the ritual.” VÉVAKI is a fluid and resourceful project, employing traditional and contemporary instrumentation of various origins. “We’re not going for historical accuracy,” points out Sigurboði. “We’re not married to the idea that it has to be a Nordic instrument. We’re not Vikings. We’re not the Shamans, or the Priests. We are the practitioners, the regular folk making the offerings.” Adds Will, “We are trying to step away from that whole Viking thing. There are modern songs for modern beliefs. We put a lot of emphasis on that.” Line up:
New Orleans-based singer-songwriter Julie Odell announces her signing to the venerable Frenchkiss Records (Diet Cig / Eleanor Friedberger), and shares her first single for the label. 'Caterpillar' serves as a great example of her unique attention to detail, the way her songs beautifully morph, with varying tempos, vocal deliveries, and noise levels, and keyboard flourishes and guitar strums that twinkle so artfully and subtly that they feel like brushstrokes. Odell has only released one single prior to being discovered by Frenchkiss. On 'Caterpillar', Odell says:- "Caterpillar is about the transformative courage it takes to step into the unknown. It’s about life’s inevitable change and the change that we choose. It’s all a free fall of hoping and trusting that there will be something to grab onto before you land on your face. Navigating the emotional path of worry, doubt, fear, excitement, discovery, joy, peace and all the adrenaline in between" Of the new signing, Syd Butler of the label explains:- “Julie is a rare find in the music world. Her unique voice, inspirational approach to writing and creative vision transport you to an intimate world ripe with what is possible.”
Her music is folky, dreamy, and soulful, marked by her powerful, peculiar vocals, detailed textures, and an instinct for immediate songcraft. Her songs are complex and multifaceted, in part because they don’t follow expected trajectories or settle into long stretches of even-keeled languor. “Internally I always feel either really chaotic or really calm,” Odell says. “So, it's a lot of really loud, fast-paced stuff, and then it'll shrink down to really quiet delicate things. I'm obsessed with dynamics.” Odell wanted to be a meteorologist when she was a kid, chasing tornadoes in a van with all her friends. Although she chose a life as an artist instead, she reckons she’s chasing musical tornadoes, since her songs are wispy, unpredictable beasts. Odell’s mother is a painter, and her father is a potter, and she spent much of her childhood in the back of a van, trekking to art festivals and craft fairs for months at a time with her parents, which was how they made a living. She was surrounded by artists and their art for her whole life, so it was only a matter of time before she started making her own art. After she began writing songs on the family upright piano and performing at open mic nights, she played “dainty piano waltzes” as an opening act for hardcore shows in South Louisiana. Then she formed a psychedelic folk-rock band called Giant Cloud, who toured frequently and released an album on Park The Van, before writing and performing music under her own name. Listening to her music feels like you’re sitting in Odell’s family van, absorbing delightful new landscapes through the window every few minutes, and you’ll never want the gorgeous fever dream to end. Julie Odell will release her debut album via FrenchKiss, with more news to follow on that shortly. Season of Mist are proud to announce the signing of Stoned Jesus, a psychedelic rock band forged in Kyiv in 2009. This Ukrainian trio consists of Igor, Sergii and Dmytro and together they already have a few albums under their belts. Musically, Stoned Jesus submerge themselves in the world of doom, grunge and prog, while maintaining their own recognizable way. Their upcoming album will be the fifth in line and the first to be released through Season Of Mist. Lead vocalist and guitarist Igor comments: "I've always been a huge fan of progressive music - progressive not in the number of notes played per second, but progressive in terms of song writing, concept and attitude. And I rarely saw rock and metal labels encouraging this deeper approach, until I discovered Season Of Mist. This is the label that I can describe with one word: 'eclectic'. And this is the label that not only approves the idea of artistic freedom but openly indulges in it! So we're extremely happy that these exact people are going to help us share our creative vision with the whole world from now on".
