Romanian singer-songwriter Sorana celebrates her “Happy Birthday Sadness" with new single10/10/2022 In honour of her recent birthday, multi-platinum singer-songwriter Sorana has shared her new single, ‘Happy Birthday Sadness’ available now at all DSPs and streaming services. Produced by Yonatan “Johnny” Goldstein (Black Eyed Peas, Flo Rida) and Nicki Adamsson (Charli XCX, Tove Lo), and co-written by Soranawith JHart (Troye Sivan, Why Don’t We), Goldstein, and Adamsson, the infectious pop track is accompanied by an official music video now streaming at YouTube HERE. "Birthday songs are always happy but I’ve always felt kinda melancholic on my birthday especially at my party when my friends bring out the cake and say ‘make a wish’ because in that moment I think of everything that is missing. I moved from country to country so many times that no matter what, I always end up missing someone on my birthday. Song writing is my therapy and having recently celebrated, I wanted to write a dramatic birthday song to express a feeling I’m sure a lot of people have felt,” Sorana tells PAPER. “It’s not always popping champagne, eating cake and laughing with your friends. Sometimes you’re alone or surrounded by the wrong people, away from your family, or lover or maybe you just want to cry at midnight. ‘Happy Birthday Sadness’ is a song for anyone who has ever felt the loneliest on what’s supposed to be our happiest day." Sorana kicked off 2022 with ‘redruM,’her explosive collaboration with superstar DJ / producer David Guetta, now boasting over 25.8M global audio streams. Watch the dark and twisted music video – which sees Sorana haunting the halls of a Shining-style hotel with glowing blue braids, evoking her Sailor Moon obsession – HERE. Soon after, Sorana followed ‘redruM’ with the release of her debut solo single, ‘Karaoke’ which POPDUST called “stunning,” praising the song as an “epic heartbreaker ready for arenas.” ‘Happy Birthday Sadness’ also follows Sorana’s energetic and innovative summer anthem, ‘Wild Girls,’ which features an interpolation of the legendary composer Ennio Morricone’s ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’ theme, directly approved by the Morricone family, marking the first time the historic composition has been used in a major pop song. Named by PEOPLE as one of “The Talented Emerging Artists Making Their Mark in 2022,” Sorana left her hometown of Romania and brought her dream to life with ambition, determination, and good old-fashioned hustle. The wildly gifted, LA-based songstress has swiftly gone from penning multi-platinum hits including the chart-topping, RIAA platinum-certified “Takeaway (Feat. Lennon Stella)” for The Chainsmokers & Illenium, and the BRIT Award-nominated, platinum-certified, “Heartbreak Anthem” for Galantis, David Guetta, & Little Mix, which hit #3 in the UK, to co-writing “Beg For You” for Charli XCX & Rina Sawayama, which reached #1 on UK Airplay charts, and both co-writing and lending her voice to Alan Walker’s “Lost Control (Feat. Sorana),” which has generated over 120Mworldwide streams and counting. Now with a string of remarkable solo releases and more unique and powerful pop music on the horizon, Sorana continues to cement her status as a major new artist and unstoppable pop force to be reckoned with. Rising star Precious Pepala shares her new single ‘Looking For Trouble,’ another example of Precious’ bold, mature lyricism and powerful voice. At just seventeen, Precious’ lyrics manage to contain universal sentiments that speak to her generation - the latest single, about the fear women feel walking alone a night, is no different: “She’s cold and she’s drunk, A little red riding her luck in the hood, She’s asking for trouble, Oh, that’s what they’ll say if trouble comes heading her way”. Swelling until it reaches a huge hook, destined to be screamed in crowded rooms, ‘Looking For Trouble’ follows Precious’ debut single ‘My Eyes Only,’ a big statement of intent from pop’s brightest new talent. Speaking about the track, Precious explains “‘Looking for Trouble’ is a song about rape culture and victim blaming. It addresses the unfortunately relatable feeling of fear when walking alone at night as a female. The lyrics also address the way that victims of sexual abuse are all too commonly questioned about things such as their clothing, actions or level of intoxication as if to justify predatory behaviour. I feel very passionately about discussing this subject matter through my music and I hope this song acts as a conversation starter, because these issues need to be discussed until we see change.” Precious grew up in Sheffield in the North of England, where she began singing at the church where her father leads a congregation. A native of the streaming generation, she used the internet to discover Destiny’s Child, Brandy and Aaliyah who inspire her laidback 90s aesthetic; and poured over the performance prowess of Beyoncé, Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga - using this rich tapestry of influences to study how to become an artist to be reckoned with. After learning guitar at school and starting a girlband with her schoolmates, Precious started writing songs by herself, about issues faced by her generation - insecurity, social anxiety, navigating love and heartbreak for the first time - the result is a fully-formed, brilliant new voice who has already won over a legion of fans online, eagerly awaiting her next move. Stay tuned for more from Precious this year. “Looking For Trouble” is out everywhere now. The track is accompanied by a new video, also out now, introducing Björk’s sonic underground world brimming with saturated fungi and bass clarinets. Watch / share the video here. The track is taken from her forthcoming album, “Fossora”, set for release September 30th. The title “Atopos” comes from the Latin word meaning "the other" both loving and in opposition. Born from the last three years living in her home country of Iceland, Björk writes and produces the song’s clarinet arrangements, repeating lyrics like “our differences are irrelevant” and “hope is a muscle” to the backdrop of painted mushrooms and rock formations. "sonically this is a heavy bottom-ended bass world we have 6 bass clarinets and punchy sub drilling, nesting and digging us into the ground" The video is directed by Viðar Logi with co-creative direction by Björk with creative consultant and longtime collaborator James Merry. Their underground world is inspired by digital root plants design from M/M Paris. Additionally, the video includes performances by Kasimyn of Gabber Modus Operandi and clarinet musicians Grímur Helgason, Hilma Kristín Sveinsdóttir, Helga Björg Arnardóttir, Kristín Þóra Pétursdóttir and Rúnar Óskarsson. Björk is a multidisciplinary artist who, time and again, innovates across music, art, fashion and technology. From writing, arranging and producing an expansive music catalogue to her collaborations with scientists, app developers, writers, inventors, musicians and instrument makers, Björk continues to inspire and experiment, redefining the boundaries of what it means to be a musician. Special thanks to Riccardo Tisci & Burberry for all their help and support in making this video, especially for the collaboration on the stunning dress that Björk wears in the video, and Squarespace for helping in creating special web sites to launch these audio-visual projects. Facebook | Website | Instagram | Spotify | Twitter New Orleans-based singer-songwriter Julie Odell announces her signing to the venerable Frenchkiss Records (Diet Cig / Eleanor Friedberger), and shares her first single for the label. 'Caterpillar' serves as a great example of her unique attention to detail, the way her songs beautifully morph, with varying tempos, vocal deliveries, and noise levels, and keyboard flourishes and guitar strums that twinkle so artfully and subtly that they feel like brushstrokes. Odell has only released one single prior to being discovered by Frenchkiss. On 'Caterpillar', Odell says:- "Caterpillar is about the transformative courage it takes to step into the unknown. It’s about life’s inevitable change and the change that we choose. It’s all a free fall of hoping and trusting that there will be something to grab onto before you land on your face. Navigating the emotional path of worry, doubt, fear, excitement, discovery, joy, peace and all the adrenaline in between" Of the new signing, Syd Butler of the label explains:- “Julie is a rare find in the music world. Her unique voice, inspirational approach to writing and creative vision transport you to an intimate world ripe with what is possible.”
Her music is folky, dreamy, and soulful, marked by her powerful, peculiar vocals, detailed textures, and an instinct for immediate songcraft. Her songs are complex and multifaceted, in part because they don’t follow expected trajectories or settle into long stretches of even-keeled languor. “Internally I always feel either really chaotic or really calm,” Odell says. “So, it's a lot of really loud, fast-paced stuff, and then it'll shrink down to really quiet delicate things. I'm obsessed with dynamics.” Odell wanted to be a meteorologist when she was a kid, chasing tornadoes in a van with all her friends. Although she chose a life as an artist instead, she reckons she’s chasing musical tornadoes, since her songs are wispy, unpredictable beasts. Odell’s mother is a painter, and her father is a potter, and she spent much of her childhood in the back of a van, trekking to art festivals and craft fairs for months at a time with her parents, which was how they made a living. She was surrounded by artists and their art for her whole life, so it was only a matter of time before she started making her own art. After she began writing songs on the family upright piano and performing at open mic nights, she played “dainty piano waltzes” as an opening act for hardcore shows in South Louisiana. Then she formed a psychedelic folk-rock band called Giant Cloud, who toured frequently and released an album on Park The Van, before writing and performing music under her own name. Listening to her music feels like you’re sitting in Odell’s family van, absorbing delightful new landscapes through the window every few minutes, and you’ll never want the gorgeous fever dream to end. Julie Odell will release her debut album via FrenchKiss, with more news to follow on that shortly. Fresh from the release of his recent single ‘How Are You Feeling?’, singer/songwriter George O’Hanlon returns with new song ‘Seagulls’. The title track from his forthcoming EP, out 13th May. ‘Seagulls’ is a particularly poignant song for George. Dealing with the subject of schoolyard alienation, the track is a heavy reflection (both sonically and thematically) on the feelings of isolation and confusion that can come to you at that delicate age when you’re first starting to express yourself. “Seagulls is a song I wrote reflecting on my time in school” George explains. “It’s a song for all the lonely, frustrated kids both past and present staring out the window.” Inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke, O’Hanlon’s song writing is both literary and deeply personal, incorporating his own life experiences into his work while framing them from different perspectives. Over the last few years O’Hanlon has been refining his playing and song writing and is now ready to share his music with the world. Following a few early gigs on the college circuit, George expanded out into a series of shows at grassroots venues, adding additional players to his live show and honing his live performance. Last September George embarked on his first UK tour of small venues around the country with his band. "We spent hours with four of us crammed in a car with all our gear" George remembers of the tour. "The tough bits are service stations at 3 in in the morning and things like that but playing the shows made it all worth it" In 2022 George will be playing a variety of festivals including Liverpool Sound City, Eastbound Festival, The Great Escape, TRSMT and 110 Above. George will also be headlining a special show at the legendary Camden Assembly (formally the Barfly) on the 26th April. Live Dates

The song is the he third single to drop from her anticipated fourth studio album ‘Time Flies’ which is out on 8th October. 'Think About You’ follows the much loved single ‘Mixed Emotions’ which extended to the recent ‘reMIXED EMOTIONS’ EP release that included 3 x new remixes from a stellar all-female artist line up which included K.Flay (US) / Woodes (Aus) / Shura (UK). The single has clocked over 1 Million streams and is already nominated for a ‘2021 Silver Scroll Award’. Pip says about the new single:- “I wrote Think About You with the incredible Josh Fountain. After we wrote the music, I came up with the idea to write the song about a fantasy infatuation that miraculously gets reciprocated. Whether it’s real or in the subject’s imagination is left up to the person listening!! I think the dictionary meaning of the word “limerence” describes this best: Limerence - noun: the state of being obsessively infatuated with someone, usually accompanied by delusions of or a desire for an intense romantic relationship with that person.” THE NEW ALBUM ‘TIME FLIES’ DROPS ON OCTOBER 8. As breakout’s go, Nathan Evans’ is remarkable. Just six months ago, the 26-year-old was a Glasgow postman. Today, he’s a certified multi-platinum recording artist; the breakthrough British act behind the UK’s biggest selling domestic single of the year. Now signed to Polydor / Interscope, his second single released 25 June - “Told You So” – a sure fire soundtrack to the summer, set to become his next unstoppable anthem as lockdown lifts. Evans single-handedly captured the world’s attention with his masterful harmonies when he uploaded a traditional sea shanty to TikTok. Remixed by 220 KID & Billen Ted, it quickly became his debut single, Wellerman, which turned into an instant international sensation: topping the charts in ten countries while clocking up well over a staggering half a billion streams. “It’s like I’ve been standing in the middle of a tornado,” says Evans, “watching everything around me be thrown around. The last few months have been a dream, hearing my voice all over the globe. It’s been fun to ride the sea shanty wave, but I’ve spent years learning my craft as a musician. Now it’s time to share my own sound.” Now Evans is in the studio, working on his debut album, and this summer he’ll play a series of festivals before embarking on a 21-date European tour. “Bubble Rockstress” Alexa Villa has unveiled her bold new single “Call Me Crazy.” The infectiously catchy pop-rock track is an anthem for the outsiders and dreamers who choose to forge their own paths in life. Stream it here: https://linktr.ee/thealexavilla. Villa shares:- “I wrote this song about how it feels to always be on the outside. For a long time growing up I didn’t feel like I belonged to any certain group of people. This song is about embracing that and stepping into who you are. I was always the one with my head in the clouds and was always told I live in a fantasy-land for having big dreams. I was the loud, wild one with crazy ideas and too much to say. This song for me was a way to overcome that and find my identity. It’s not crazy to dream.” “Call Me Crazy” will be featured on Villa’s upcoming Good Girl EP, which is planned for release in the coming months. While her classmates were playing with Barbies, Los Angeles-based Bubble Rockstress Alexa Villa was playing on The Warped Tour. She has opened for acts including The Darkness, Ryan Cabrera, and Mark Ballas & BC Jean of Alexander Jean to name a few and has honed her craft as the sharp, yet charismatic artist she is today. With influences ranging from Miley Cyrus, Yungblud, 5SOS, Willow Smith and Halsey to Led Zeppelin, Gwen Stefani and Alanis Morissette, the singer-songwriter / classically-trained pianist and producer empowers the listener to embrace their madness and be authentically imperfect, loud and abrupt. She also expresses individuality through fashion and works with various brands to further create her own world. Fast rising pop prodigy Jamie Hannah has been busy working with Boy George on several songs and today releases his new single ‘House of Truth’. The duet with George received a premiere by PEOPLE magazine yesterday, who hailed it a “summer smash”. LISTEN HERE ‘House of Truth’ is a truly unique and infectious song; beginning with a soulful refrain and driving beat. Jamie and George take turns with the early verses which in turn build to a gospel infused crescendo. The full breadth and range of Jamie’s 4-octave spanning vocals are showcased as the duo are joined by a joyous gospel choir. “I am very lucky to have Boy George as a mentor. The whole process of making and recording the song and video with such an icon has been very surreal” says Hannah. Equal adoration beams from Boy George as he exclaims “Jamie is a Natural!” Jamie Hannah is a 22 year old British singer-songwriter with an extraordinary voice. His incredible vocal capabilities were honed at the Royal College of Music, where he trained in opera. Fusing this training with a variety of genres results in pop music with true passion, unlike anything else you’re likely to hear right now. His huge range and soaring falsetto makes ‘House of Truth’ one of the most affirming hits of the summer. ‘House of Truth’ follows this year’s earlier release ‘Sound of My Youth’, which was produced by notorious producer Benny D (Stormzy, Kylie Minogue). Since its release, Jamie has been gathering support from media the world over, as well as from some big celebrity stars including Oscar winner Dame Emma Thomson and Entertainment Presenter India Willoughby. Whilst supporting the track, Jamie has also been performing live throughout the country, most recently supporting Heather Small on the Voice of the M People Tour. Indiana, the British singer, songwriter and social media provocateur, has announced and released a new EP titled ‘I Like Drinking’. The title track, an uplifting pop anthem dedicated to the art of boozing, is lifted from Indiana’s current album ‘Not Girlfriend Material’, which was released in August. The EP also includes a remix by fast-rising UK producer Adam Turner, an acoustic version of the song, and a brand new track ‘Wasted On You’ Indiana said:- “I was drinking heavily at the time of writing it and didn’t give a fuck what people thought. I genuinely like drinking. In fact, I love drinking and that’s OK as far as I’m concerned. There are millions out there that feel the same. It’s a song for them.” Indiana’s album ‘Not Girlfriend Material’, like it’s creator, is sultry, heartfelt, eclectic and sometimes controversial. The album was recorded at a time of significant change in Indiana’s life - the end of a relationship and a moment of self discovery. "Entering the dating scene was a wake-up call. It never satisfied me…. guys are attracted to me, and want to f*ck me…. but in terms of continuing a relationship, they have issues with who I am, and why they were attracted to me in the first place." And so came the life-changing revelation: “I’m not girlfriend material, but I’m OK with it.” The revelation became a life statement and since then, has become a mantra. Indiana has created a clothing line called ‘Sex Leisure’, which sells a range of t-shirts bearing the slogan ‘Not Girlfriend Material’. In what has now become a signature look for the artist, an oversized t-shirt coupled with sports socks and trainers, she says it is “a cute exterior but with a bit of filth.” Having previously released an acclaimed album via Sony, since leaving the label Indiana has become a social media provocateur in her own right - her instagram account @indianathegirl has thousands of followers who signed up for her sultry yet artistic selfies, tongue-in-cheek commentary and controversial moments. ‘I Like Drinking’ EP Track Listing: 1 - I Like Drinking 2 - I Like Drinking (Adam Turner Remix) 3 - Wasted On You 4 - I Like Drinking acoustic 'I Like Drinking' is available here: http://smarturl.it/ILikeDrinking https://www.facebook.com/indianathegirl/ https://www.instagram.com/indianathegirl https://www.twitter.com/indianathegirl https://www.instagram.com/sexleisure/ |
