Recently signed to This Feeling Records, Fitzroy Holt’s current single ‘Medicine’ has seen the rising newcomer earn comparisons to the likes of Michael Kiwanuka and Scott Walker. His rootsy cocktail of confessional soul and bluesy garage-rock has taken him to festivals including the Isle of Wight, Truck and The Great Escape this summer, while also landing airplay from BBC Music Introducing. Now Fitzroy adds to his growing acclaim by sharing the video for ‘Medicine’. The video places Fitzroy in his home-from-home setting of Norton’s Bar in Digbeth, where he claims you can get the best Guinness in Brum. Shot in a shadowy, introspective monochrome, it shows him alone in the venue - simultaneously performer, punter and barman. Its loneliness is an apt metaphor for the song, which sees Fitzroy bravely revisiting his experiences suffering with substance abuse. Yet as the song steps into a brighter future, his desolation is cut with fiery live footage of Fitzroy and his band performing at the Isle of Wight Festival. The video was directed and edited by two of Fitzroy’s most trusted collaborators: George Morris, the percussionist from his live band and his regular studio engineer, and Patsy Wesson, the muse who inspired the song’s redemptive spirit. Fitzroy says, “Trying to match and create visuals which married the emotions and themes of the song without being overt and cheesy was no easy feat. I think we shot at least five times more footage than we actually used in the video. We then decided to splice footage from our Isle of Wight performance into it. If you were there you’ll know it was full of passion and energy that added the raw edge the video needed. The video turned out like the song, I guess, a dark ode to love, but a real labour of love also." The ‘Medicine’ video comes as Fitzroy prepares to play a London headline show at St. Pancras Old Church on October 28th. Remaining tickets are available HERE. Fitzroy Holt performed in various rock bands around the Wolverhampton area, but the idea of working as a solo artist first gained traction during the initial lockdown. Living in a semi-derelict factory in the city, the relative isolation of the time resulted in a far more introspective approach in his writing. He debuted with the self-financed release ‘Kelly’ in 2021, which was inspired by the struggles he saw women face while working with the local homeless charity Haven. This Feeling came onboard as his personal champions, leading to a deal with their label earlier this year. His music also took on a richer production with the warmth of his live performance with the backing of his band and by working with producer Gavin Monaghan (Paolo Nutini, Robert Plant, Editors). He’s inspired by artists whose lyrical edge finds the grace between personal experience and pure poetry, including Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Damon Albarn and Yves Tumor. Yet an ethos of recognising and understanding other people’s struggles is also a core aspect of his songwriting style. English alternative rock band The Subways are back with a new single titled "You Kill My Cool," which will appear on the trio's upcoming album, due out this fall. Stream the single here: https://linktr.ee/thesubways. Lead vocalist Billy Lunn says:- "You Kill My Cool was written at a time when I felt love so strongly that I wanted to be consumed by it, to give myself over to it entirely. I recognised a self-effacement in this feeling, as it was a willing submission or surrender that was as much destructive as it was productive. You become ecstatic, beside yourself, and not what you were before. Time stops but moves too quickly, you grow but you also diminish, you feel pleasure alongside immense pain. The one you love is more than just a single number amongst seven-billion others, more than a profile picture or a name by which you call them. They're godlike - and with such power, they can send you to a state of nirvana and they can demolish you. Either of which continues to enthral." The Subways remain one of the most exciting live bands on the current touring circuit, thrilling crowds with their explosive rock sound and wild stage performances. Back in 2005, with an average age of just 18, Billy, Charlotte and Josh crashed onto the international music scene with their debut album ‘YOUNG FOR ETERNITY’, and their rock-club floor-filling single ‘ROCK & ROLL QUEEN’. The NME proclaimed them “The sexiest thing to sweep rock n roll off its feet in years!”. An appearance on American smash teen drama THE OC and in Guy Ritchie’s London Gangster flick ‘RocknRolla’ has helped make the track a Spotify Rock Playlist mainstay. https://open.spotify.com/artist/4BntNFyiN3VGG4hhRRZt9d The band have released four albums to date. Their sophomore, ‘ALL OR NOTHING’ (2008), was recorded in LA with heavyweight producer Butch Vig. The global pandemic, though cutting short their 40+ date international ‘Young For Eternity Anniversary Tour’, has kept Billy busy in his newly-established Hertfordshire studio, with Charlotte and Josh in their respective homes focused on remotely recording Album 5. Makeshift under-stair vocal booths were constructed, and the album is now ready for a summer, 2022 release alongside a full European Tour (https://www.thesubways.net/gigs). In April 2021 the band signed to ‘Alcopop’ and released the politically-charged, Black-Lives-Matter-inspired single “Fight”, which they describe as “a letter in two parts: a gesture of solidarity with the Black community and communities of colour as they face their daily oppression at the hands of systemic racism, and a wake-up-call to the white community that such oppressions do in fact exist, and that we must acknowledge these oppressions and fight alongside marginalised communities as allies.” Sadly, in October 2020, after completing drum contributions for the upcoming 5th album, drummer and founding band member Josh Morgan left the band. (Full story here: https://www.thesubways.net/single-post/josh-leaves-the-subways). The Subways quickly added drummer Camille Phillips (previously of The Ramonas [http://www.ramonas.co.uk] to the band line-up for the rescheduled 2021 ‘Young For Eternity’ Anniversary tour dates, on which she was very warmly welcomed and received by the band’s devoted fanbase. In January 2022, she was happily announced as The Subways’ new permanent drummer. It is indeed live where the band hit another level. Firm summer festival favourites, they have graced the stages of over 100 international festivals (including, notably, Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage, the main stages at Reading & Leeds, Rock Im Park, Rock Am Ring, Hurricane, Southside, and Rock En Seine) but whether in front of 100 people or 250,000, the band always deliver a high octane, thoroughly entertaining set… “We will rock till we drop, as there is nothing more exciting for us than being on tour. The greatest drug in the world is seeing people screaming the words and dancing to the songs you’ve written. To get up onstage and to play rock and roll every day, to visit new towns, new cities, new countries, new continents and to make new friends along the way, it’s the most amazing experience we’ve ever felt!” Website With the latest single, ‘I Know You’ Ft. Bastille, currently sitting at #2 in the iTunes Chart and on the A-list at both BBC Radio 1 and Radio 2, Craig premiere’s new album track, ‘Live in the Moment’ as he gears up to kick off his US tour, starting tonight in Miami. Taken from his forthcoming seventh studio album, ‘The Time Is Now’ due for release on 26th January 2018 and features collaborations with JP Cooper, AJ Tracey, Ella Mai and Bastille, the brilliant new track, ‘Live in the Moment’, sees Craig team up with Grammy nominated US rapper and vocalist, GoldLink alongside acclaimed producer, Kaytranada who provides his unique genre-defying blend of soul, funk and R&B as the backdrop to this standout track. On the track, Craig says:- “This song is one that I've been so looking forward to dropping as it really sums up my outlook on life and how much I value Living in the moment as I've realised that’s where all the fun & magic is. It was amazing to work with Kaytranada again as he always comes so correct with the beats, so when I heard this one I instantly fell in love with the groove & knew exactly what I wanted to talk about. What made this record for me though was having the opportunity to work with such a talented rapper as Goldlink. Not only was the vibe incredible in the studio with G, but it was amazing to connect with someone I have been following for a long time now who is an amazing human being on & off the mic. Excited for people to hear this and turn it up incredibly Loud”. GoldLink says:- “Amazing vibes all round. Very natural song process as well… I was never the type to work in a studio with someone. I’m more of a bedroom rapper, but the environment had such a home feel that I was comfortable enough to break out of my shell and make something I was proud of with a person who I deem as a legend. Craig is one of music’s greatest voices, and I’m honoured to be part of this album” THE TIME IS NOW TRACKLISTING:
