Sŵnami release their brand new single, the emotive ‘Paradis Disparu’. It follows the award-winning Welsh indie-pop group’s previous singles ‘Be Bynnag Fydd’, which documented band member Gruff Jones’ journey to accepting their gender fluidity, and double A-side ‘Theatr’ / ‘Uno, Cydio, Tanio’, which came out late last year. The new songs are the first glimpse of the band’s long-awaited second album ‘Sŵnamii’, due out this summer. So far, they’ve been gaining the band support from BBC Radio 1, Clash Magazine, BBC News, and Spotify New Music Friday.
Since launching their debut album in 2015, Sŵnami (pronounced ‘Tsunami’) have been re-writing the script for Welsh-language music, and bringing it to the mainstream. Without compromising on their policy of writing and performing mostly in Welsh, the group have found success because of their unique sound, not in spite of it: "If people like Christine and the Queens can sing in French and Sigur Ros in their own made-up language, why can't we sing in Welsh?" Gruff told the BBC. Their irresistible blend of shimmering guitars, indie sensibilities with pure pop melodies have been winning over fans and critics regardless of their understanding of the Welsh language. Their first album saw them record a coveted BBC Maida Vale session, as well as winning the award for Welsh Language Album of the Year. ‘Paradis Disparu’ blends the band’s perfect melodic mastery with deep, melancholic tones. A song about grief, some of the lyrics translate to “Paradise is too far from us, but we’ll preserve and we’ll be ok”. Ifan Davies of the band says: “Paradis Disparu is about the impossible task of moving on after losing someone. It’s about spiralling into mania, and trying to accept that although what once was, is dead and lost, life must go on.” A music video for ‘Paradis Disparu’ will be revealed soon. The band have become known for working with fellow notable Welsh creatives, and in keeping with this trend, it will star Bafta Cymru Award Winner Callum Scott Howells, famous for his appearance in Russell T Davies’ award winning Channel 4 series ‘It’s A Sin’. Previous Sŵnami videos have starred the likes of Tom Rhys Harries, and Linford Hydes of the Welsh Ballroom Community. Sŵnami is Ifan Davies, Ifan Ywain, Gruff Jones, Gerwyn Murray, and Lewis Williams. The band are due to play a series of summer festivals in Wales, including:

Ahead of their massive shows with Liam Gallagher at Knebworth last weekend, Kasabian have dropped ’Chemicals’, the third track from their highly-anticipated new album "The Alchemist’s Euphoria", out August 5th on Columbia Records. A pulsating, guitar driven anthem and the last track the band recorded for the album, 'Chemicals' is an encompassing pop moment written by Serge Pizzorno and produced by Serge and Fraser T Smith, with mixing from Spike Stent. “It is me telling myself that it is going to be okay” Serge said of the track. “It was me seeing myself in those few weeks when everything kicked off. It's the future me saying to that person: 'This is shit, but don't worry, it will get better.’ So having a song about talking to yourself is universal, I think. We all have to find a way to deal with the complications, the mess and the mortality of life.” Listen to ‘CHEMICALS’ HERE. Of the new album Serge adds: “One thing about this record I feel over the other ones, is it definitely feels like a body of work that belongs together. It was a beautiful moment in mastering hearing it as a piece. I think it really holds up in our seven albums….The Magnificent Seven”. Known for their blistering live shows, Kasabian have announced a run of UK shows this Winter, including a date at London’s Alexandra Palace on 29th October. Her upcoming second EP ‘Into The Blue Hour’ tracks her move from London to a tightly knit creative community in the seaside town of Margate. After trading the intrusive city skylines for an endless horizon by the sea, Mackey’s forthcoming music has a new sense of space, depth and introspection. The EP’s lead single ‘Distance (Blank)’ is available to buy and stream on all platforms. LISTEN here The founding member of Welsh shoegaze outfit Deaf Club, Mackey spent time immersed in East London’s creative ecosystem before moving south of the river. Since the group disbanded, Mackey became enamoured with London’s pirate radio networks and began making electronic music with an experimental focus, releasing her debut ‘Measures’ EP as Art School Girlfriend in late 2017. Now expanding on those electronic blueprints, the ‘Into The Blue Hour’ EP sees Mackey further develop her production tool kit and mastery of negative space. The beat-driven lead single ‘Distance (Blank)’ explores Mackey’s fatigue with crowded city living, feelings of claustrophobia and the desire to be out in a wide open space. The single is soon to be paired with visuals directed by Tom Dream. Art School Girlfriend embarks on her first full UK tour in October, beginning with a performance at London’s St Pancras Old Church on the 5th. Full details follow. National Theatre Wales commissioned Gruff Rhys to write a brand-new song paying tribute to the NHS during its anniversary year. No Profit in Pain was released today (5 July 2018), the actual day that the NHS celebrates its 70th birthday. Earlier today, Gruff, along with National Theatre Wales’ Artistic Director, Kully Thiarai, gathered under the Aneurin Bevan Statue (the Welsh Labour MP from Tredegar who was responsible for creating the NHS in 1948) on Cardiff’s Queen Street for a photo opportunity to officially launch National Theatre Wales’s NHS70 Festival. National Theatre Wales will celebrate the National Health Service’s 70th birthday throughout July with a month-long, multi-artform festival, inspired by the staff and patients of this unique institution. This country-wide festival will feature productions and events made and performed in locations across Wales, all celebrating one of Wales’ best exports. Kully Thiarai, Artistic Director at NTW said:- “It’s great to have an opportunity to invite Gruff back to collaborate with us here at National Theatre Wales to be part of our NHS70 festival. A festival that seeks to celebrate the NHS - a much loved institution that is close to so many people's hearts. An idea born in Wales and made universal by Aneurin Bevan from Tredegar. This anniversary is our chance to pay tribute to a great Welsh story and thank ‘Nye’ for his creation, and most importantly to say thank you and celebrate the staff and volunteers of our unique NHS who pick us up when we fall.” Gruff added:- “The NHS is something that we can too easily take for granted. It’s been there for me throughout my life and has also saved many of my family members lives. In that sense it means more than anything I could ever convey in a pop song. For the song I’ve focused on the battle to keep the NHS as a free service in public ownership. Privatisation is creeping in and it will be a death knell for the NHS we all love and cherish if we are not vigilant.” NHS70 Festival productions and events will be performed in venues all over Wales, including hospitals, schools, memorial halls and arts venues in Carmarthen, Welshpool, Wrexham, Bangor and Tredegar, birthplace of the NHS’ founder, Aneurin Bevan, all as part of the festival. Aneira Thomas, the first baby ever to be born under the NHS and Patron of the NHS70 Festival said:- “I think National Theatre Wales NHS70 Festival is a wonderful idea. It’s great to see the arts community celebrate this unique institution with us all. As patron of the festival, I can’t wait to see some of these some of the shows they have planned which all pay tribute to the staff, volunteers and patients of our wonderful NHS”.
