The London-based three-piece Benin City, comprised of vocalists Joshua Idehen and Shanaz Dorsett with multi-instrumentalist Tom Leaper, today share a video for their current single, "Final Form". The track is taken from their upcoming album, Last Night, which will be an ode to London's nightlife, set for release via Moshi Moshi Records on June 15th 2018. Joshua said the following about the video: "Our last video for "All Smoke, No Fire" was in memory of all the clubs that have shut in the last five years, so we wanted our next video to celebrate the mainstream and alternative scenes still thriving in London. Working with George Bushaway, we crafted a narrative of two clubbers working up the courage to lose themselves in three very different dance-floors: Lindy hopping with Swing Patrol in Holborn, Jungle/Garage raving in Fire down Vauxhall, and a soca night at Ruby Blue, Leicester Square". About the track itself he continued: "I once went to Zoo Bar in the west end with a poet I really fancied. It was a Saturday night and neither of us drank but we felt like dancing. They were playing soulful house (this was way back in the noughties). Spurring and daring each other on, we started with the running man and ended up at last orders, dripping in the worst sweat, making up entirely new dance moves, downing large glasses of tap water. She, a Dragonball Z fan, kept saying, “nah, you haven’t seen my Final Form. Next song I will be over 9000”. Obviously, that stuck with me." Watch / share the video HERE. Following a sold out show at London's The Waiting Room, which was a boundary-pushing performance combining spoken word and music, Benin City are currently at SXSW in Austin, Texas to play 4 shows including one for BBC Radio 1, details of which are below. The band will also perform at The Lock Tavern in London on 31st March. Their live dates are as follows: 14th Mar (9pm): USA, Austin, Texas: SXSW, Esther's Follies 16th Mar (4.30pm): USA, Austin, Texas: SXSW, Flatstock Stage 17th Mar (2pm): USA, Austin, Texas: SXSW, British Music Embassy @ SXSW Presents, Latitude 30 17th Mar (1am): USA, Austin, Texas: SXSW, BBC Radio 1 @ British Music Embassy @ SXSW Presents, Latitude 30 31st March: UK, London: Lock Tavern 8th June: UK, London: Poetry and Lyrics Festival with Cerys Matthews 9th August: UK, Winchester: Boomtown Festival Clubbing is a source of euphoria: a weekly, often daily escape, a respite from the grind. That culture and its landmarks – some of London’s best venues and many countless pubs - are slowly disappearing for good. On the band’s record, due for release in June, Benin City's narrators draw on the last decade of their collective experiences as ravers, bar workers and observers and take an album-long look at the nature of London’s nightlife.Read an interview with the band over at Noisey here. Following the untimely death of David Bowie on 10 January 2016, a groundswell of opinion surfaced in Buckinghamshire, England to celebrate his art in a permanent way, in recognition of the history he had with music club Friars Aylesbury. He performed the world debuts of two of the most iconic albums of the 20th century, ‘Hunky Dory’ and ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’, at Friars Aylesbury in 1971/72. He formed the Spiders from Mars in the tiny Friars dressing room and referenced Aylesbury Market Square in the first line of ‘Five Years’. “Pushing through the Market Square so many mothers sighing” Following a Kickstarter campaign, Aylesbury Market Square will become home to the world’s first sculpture of Bowie which will be unveiled at 2.00pm on Sunday 25 March. When the Kickstarter campaign finished in December 2016, one of the backers Alex Laurent, suggested changing the name of Aylesbury to Aylesbowie. David Stopps of Friars Aylesbury, the brains behind the campaign, thought this was a brilliant idea, and looked into the history and origins of the town’s name. It turns out that the town name is of Old English origin. Its first recorded name Æglesburgh is thought to mean "Fort of Ægel", presumably relating to the Iron Age hill fort that was discovered in the town centre, though who Ægel was is not recorded. Since earliest records there have been 57 variations of the town’s name, so changing the name to Aylesbowie would simply be the 58th. David Bowie obviously has a much more credible claim to the name of the town than some long forgotten and unknown Anglo-Saxon. Naming the town after him, along with the Earthly Messenger sculpture, will be a permanent celebration and commemoration of his life and work. The Friars Aylesbury team have started a petition to change the name at change.org (which can be viewed here). After the Earthly Messenger unveiling on March 25th at 2.00pm there will be a statue fundraiser concert at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, with Marillion, Howard Jones and John Otway who all hale from the Aylesbury area. Tickets are available here or from Ticketmaster. Lower Than Atlantis have released a brand new live video for 'I Would.' Taken off the bands latest album 'Safe In Sound.' He says in relation to ‘Black Holes’: “I think it shows a completely different side to my voice. In taking on lead vocals, that was something I wanted to be able to show from the get go. It's a song we've played at rehearsal for a while and we're all really excited about integrating it into the set. Continuing to speak on the lyrics, Douglas says “It's all too easy in this day and age to post every single thought we have online, and at times too much can be said. Everybody seems to be so quick to have an opinion on something, which they often know nothing about, and I struggle to defend how much negativity is spouted online. We really wanted to make sure that emotion was captured in the recording and our producer Adrian Bushby really brought out the bare bones of the song in the best way. It’s a conscious effort to go back to basics. We really want the listener to be able to hear every part being played and I feel we've achieved that.” ‘Black Holes’ received its first airplay on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 Show last night and Mallory Knox are all set to take their revamped line-up on the road for a clutch of headline dates in April, as well as festival appearances at Selby Pop Punk Pile-Up and Camden Rocks.
