Ladyhawke (‘Pip’ Brown) has released her brand-new single and new album title track ‘Time Flies’, a behemoth, stadium sing-along ready indie-rock anthem. Pip shares:- “I wrote this song in one of my first sessions back in LA with producer Tommy English. I had lived in LA for a number of years, and when I flew back into LA for the first time since moving home to New Zealand I had this intense feeling of nostalgia - the song is an ode to being back in Los Angeles." 'Time Flies’ follows the critically acclaimed track ‘Think About You’ and much loved single ‘Mixed Emotions’ which extended to the recent ‘reMIXED EMOTIONS’ EP release that included 3 x new remixes from a stellar all-female artist line up which included K.Flay (US) / Woodes (Aus) / Shura (UK). Prior was the first taste of this outstanding new creative era from Ladyhawke with ‘Guilty Love’, a collaboration with BROODS which topped Triple J’s most-played list has clocked over 1 Million streams, and is already nominated for a ‘2021 Silver Scroll Award’. Ladyhawke's incredible knack for a catchy pop hook coupled with an 80s rock chic ambience has been widely revered since her breakout singles in 2008. Due out 19th November on BMG, her new album ‘Time Flies’ fuses intimate subject matter such as motherhood, mental health, postnatal depression & recovering from a serious skin cancer condition, with upbeat guitar-led rock and irresistibly catchy electronic elements. Further to the release of her new track, ‘Time Flies’, Ladyhawke is excited to announce a new merch item now available from her store. The limited-edition Game Cartridge Keychains are a must-have for any Ladyhawke fan, featuring a custom Time Flies video game, as well as a download of the upcoming album. Ladyhawke (‘Pip’ Brown) reveals her infectious brand-new single ‘Think About You’, out now. The song is the he third single to drop from her anticipated fourth studio album ‘Time Flies’ which is out on 8th October. 'Think About You’ follows the much loved single ‘Mixed Emotions’ which extended to the recent ‘reMIXED EMOTIONS’ EP release that included 3 x new remixes from a stellar all-female artist line up which included K.Flay (US) / Woodes (Aus) / Shura (UK). Prior to this, the first taste of this outstanding new creative era from Ladyhawke was ‘Guilty Love, a collaboration with Broods which received a first play on BBC 6Music. The single has clocked over 1 Million streams and is already nominated for a ‘2021 Silver Scroll Award’. Pip says about the new single:- “I wrote Think About You with the incredible Josh Fountain. After we wrote the music, I came up with the idea to write the song about a fantasy infatuation that miraculously gets reciprocated. Whether it’s real or in the subject’s imagination is left up to the person listening!! I think the dictionary meaning of the word “limerence” describes this best: Limerence - noun: the state of being obsessively infatuated with someone, usually accompanied by delusions of or a desire for an intense romantic relationship with that person.” THE NEW ALBUM ‘TIME FLIES’ DROPS ON OCTOBER 8. Danish electro / goth indie rock trio Nelson Can have announced the Solo Desire: Remix Together collaboration project—an initiative to use their own audience and streaming channels to provide an opportunity for artists and musicians to further support themselves financially at this difficult time. After disbanding earlier this year, the three-piece are providing open-source access to the stems from their final album So Long Desire, and encouraging fellow artists and producers to submit their own remixes of tracks from the record. All submissions will then be released on a 50/50 royalty split with contributors, who the trio hope will benefit from the band’s existing profile and audience.
The deadline for submissions is midnight on 21st May 2020. Commenting on the idea, the band say:- “Times like these call for creative thinking. We disbanded in January so we don’t really need the publicity, but a lot of artists do. We want to offer the chance to other artists to use our platform; our name, our music and our access to fans and followers, to generate revenue for themselves. Really, it’s a no-brainer. We have something that could be valuable to others, and we are currently not using it, so why on earth shouldn’t we just allow others to use it? It’s important to us to make clear that this is not charity; it’s about sharing and collaboration. The artists who join the project will receive credit and royalties for their work and can hopefully use it to add to the progression of their own career.” So Long Desire was released earlier this year on Alcopop! Records and was Nelson Can's first album in six years. Their maturation as both musicians and songwriters over the course of their career can be heard strikingly in the evolution of this, their final record together. Since parting ways, the members of Nelson Can are all embarking on new musical projects. Front woman Selina Gin has taken up the mantle as producer and lyricist in her solo project ‘SELINA GIN’, where she creates beautiful soundscapes to envelope her sometimes delicate, sometimes earth-shattering, voice in chameleonic fashion. She had her debut live performance as a solo artist supporting The National last November. Bassist Signe SigneSigne and drummer Maria Juntunen are both also working on new projects, with details TBA. Solo Desire: Remixed Together will be released 19th June 2020 http://www.nelsoncan.com https://twitter.com/nelsoncanband https://www.facebook.com/nelsoncanband/ https://www.facebook.com/selinaginiconic/ Hozier has released his new EP today, titled ‘Nina Cried Power’. Consisting of four brand new tracks written and performed by Hozier, the EP’s lead single and title track features legendary soul/gospel singer Mavis Staples, with iconic musician Booker T Jones on organ. Single ‘Nina Cried Power’ channels the raw spirit and energy of protest and social activism. In the song, Hozier name-checks several iconic artists, activists and proponents of the civil rights movement whose messages, activism and artistry contributed to change through protest. Those mentioned in the track’s lyrics include (among others) Joni Mitchell, John Lennon, James Brown, the song’s namesake Nina Simone, and Mavis Staples - whose peerless vocals feature on the track too. Of the single, Hozier says:- “The song was written sometime last year, my aim was to credit the actuality of hope, solidarity and love found in the human spirit at a time when their opposites were being given a mainstream platform 24/7. The song started as a tongue-in-cheek inquiry into modern popular language regarding political awareness and grew from there. In many ways the song is a thank you note to the legacy of artists from the 20th Century whose work still inspires us, and whose well we draw from in times of uncertainty. Mavis Staples is one such artist. Getting to work with her on this song was a joy, and nothing short of a dream come true.” Mavis Staples says:- “Oh, Nina is gonna wake the world up. Such a huge sound it could shake the Earth, filled with soul, passion, and fire, and it channels the struggles of some of my contemporaries. I’m telling you when you hear it, it’s going to drive you to rise up.” The ‘Nina Cried Power’ EP continues with second track ‘NFWMB’, a softer song in contrast to the opener, which builds from just a tender acoustic guitar to a full and brooding sound, reminiscent of the song’s assertive lyric. ‘Moment’s Silence’ follows, an up-tempo, blues-inspired number whose lyrics serve as an ode to the peaceful clarity which love can yield, even when surrounded by the chaos and confusion of the wider world. The final track on the EP is ‘Shrike’, an example of Hozier’s astonishing vocal range and poetic lyricism as he urges: “Remember me love when I’m reborn…As the shrike to your sharp and glorious thorn.” Listen to ‘Nina Cried Power’ here: https://Hozier.lnk.to/NCPPR Mavis Staples is a multi-Grammy Award-winning artist and performer, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 as part of The Staples Singers, the enormously influential gospel, soul and R&B group she was a founding member of. Fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Booker T. Jones also appears on Hozier’s ‘Nina Cried Power EP’ - his inimitable Hammond B3 Organ playing appears on tracks 1, 2 and 3. Booker T. Jones says: “Hozier is a rare artist who remains a wellspring of creativity. Like a baby who never becomes a child, he lingers selflessly at the source, rendering one fresh song after the other.” Hozier will play a special show at prestigious London venue Koko next Tuesday 11th September. All proceeds from the intimate show - which sold out within minutes - will go to War Child, a charity close to Hozier’s heart. He will announce further UK, Ireland & European dates on 17th September. Born Andrew Hozier-Byrne, Hozier is an award-winning musician, singer and songwriter from Ireland. His number one, debut studio album ‘Hozier’ was released in October 2014 and includes the multi-Platinum, Grammy-nominated anthem 'Take Me To Church', which later won ‘Best Song’ for Hozier at the 2015 Ivor Novello Awards. The record also featured the optimistic, up-tempo 'Someone New', the soulful 'Work Song', and early stand out 'From Eden'. In 2016, Hozier released the album’s closing track ‘Cherry Wine’ as a charity single to create awareness of the domestic abuse problems worldwide, with proceeds benefiting a series of international domestic abuse charities. The official video features 3-time Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan. Hozier followed up the success of his debut LP with the track 'Better Love', taken from the soundtrack of the Warner Bros’ adventure film The Legend Of Tarzan. Hozier’s ‘Nina Cried Power’ EP is out now via Island Records. Listen to the EP and connect with Hozier here: https://hozier.lnk.to/FollowPR Pillow Queens announce new EP ‘State of The State’. Set for release 16th March via Specialist Subject: http://shop.specialistsubjectrecords.co.uk/products/609465 Stream new single ‘Favourite’: https://soundcloud.com/specialistsubject/pillow-queens-favourite ‘State of The State’ is the new EP from queer, all-girl Irish indie rock group Pillow Queens. The four tracks will be released via Bristol-based indie Specialist Subject Records on 16th March. The first taster of the new collection is ‘Favourite’, a maniacal composition about self-delusion, which fizzes with intent and boasts a perfectly potent hook. Despite the sunny disposition of Pillow Queens’ catchy melodies and rambunctious riffs, the songs found on ‘State of The State’ tend to have a darker undercurrent. Opener ‘Puppets’ is “a song about the frustration of trying to succeed in post-recession Ireland and the effect that has on mental health,” explains vocalist/guitarist/bassist Sarah Corcoran. Elsewhere on the EP, the band muse on emotional highs and lows, the inevitability of anxiety and paranoia. ‘State of The State’ is the product of Pillow Queens’ first year being a band. Their intense year of gigging, touring, and really getting to know each other’s abilities fed into this recording, in contrast to the creation of their delightful debut ‘Calm Girls’ EP, which was recorded just after the band got together. Producer Peter Ashmore tapped into the wide-reaching references PQ threw at him, which included the likes of Hop Along, Yuck, Weezer, Manchester Orchestra and the Pixies, in order to attain a timeless feel befitting of the beautifully crafted songs. Rachel Lyons (drums/vocals) observes that the EP draws “from all our teenage musical influences which have been chewed up and poured out, PQ style.” The resulting creation is something special and unmistakeably “Pillow Queens”. The artwork for the EP was brought to life by Nola Mellon and is inspired by the old Fallon’s maths times table book you used to have in primary school. The “idyllic” track, as described by Uncut magazine, focuses on “my interpretation of indecision, idealism and havering - a kind of trilogy, like Krzysztof Kieślowski’s ‘Three Colours’ film series,” explains Nick. Its college rock choruses part away from the bucolic pop of the rest of the album, making the single into the perfect soundtrack of an endless English summer’s afternoon. Prior to his hugely successful and prolific solo career, Nick came to prominence as the frontman of percolating pop-funk new wave group Haircut 100, a foundational part of the 80s-pop explosion. They released four UK Top 10 hit singles, with their debut album ‘Pelican West’ reaching no. 2 in the UK album charts, no. 31 in USA’s Billboard 200, and ending up being certified platinum by BPI, with Nick gracing the cover of pacesetting style magazine The Face. Entering as the highest new entry at No. 4 in the Official Independent UK Albums chart, ‘Woodland Echoes’ has seen support across the board with positive reviews from the most credible music publications including; The Observer, Sunday Times Culture, Mojo, Uncut, Classic Pop and Record Collector, while previous singles have been supported by Sarah Cox and Vanessa Feltz on BBC Radio 2, Gary Crowley on BBC London - who made ‘Baby Blue Sky’ his ‘Record of the Week’ – as well as Loose Ends on BBC Radio 4 and BBC London’s Robert Elms. Having already appeared on TV shows including Lorraine, London Live and BBC Red Button, Nick will perform for BBC 1 Children in Need at Wembley Arena in November, and is co-starring in an upcoming Channel 5 show which will see the singer songwriter tour the UK in a camper van in a show called ‘Celebrity Motor Homes’ alongside celebrities such as Lesley Joseph, Melvin Hayes and Cleo Rocos. With his recent solo set at this year’s Great Escape Festival praised by Drowned In Sound as “one of the finest we heard all weekend, his second coming is imminent” and his recent full band headline show at 229 received rave reviews by the likes of Metro, Nick is set to return to the live circuit with a full UK tour in Spring 2018. His first record in 18 years “can't be called a return to form for Heyward because he never lost his form; it just went unheard for years,” as written by All Music within the full star’s review. “Call it a welcome return instead, because the world of pop music always needs music this smart, tuneful, and unabashedly romantic.” Nick Heyward – as perfectly described by Louder Than War is still “a songwriter of the highest order.” UK TOUR 2018 MAY Thurs 24th BRIGHTON - Concorde 2 Fri 25th LONDON - O2 Academy Islington JUNE Fri 1st BIRMINGHAM - O2 Academy Sat 2nd LIVERPOOL - O2 Academy Thurs 7th GLASGOW - Òran Mór Fri 8th SHEFFIELD - O2 Academy Fri 15th OXFORD - O2 Academy Thurs 21st CARDIFF - The Globe Fri 22nd STURMINSTER NEWTON - The Exchange Thurs 28th BATH – Komedia Fri 29th EASTLEIGH - Concorde Club JULY Fri 6th MILTON KEYNES - The Stables NICKHEYWARD.COM, FACEBOOK, TWITTER |
