"Mjøen melts the glacial pop vibes fellow Nordic names do so well, with sweet and addictive vocals washing against balmy tropicalia to create something that begs for beaches and sun-smooched boulevards" - Line of Best Fit Hanne Mjøen reveals her new video ‘Vanilla’, out now via Norwegian independent label Sailor Music. The video is directed by Mira Wickman. In short time, Oslo’s Hanne Mjøen has established herself as a fast-rising one-to-watch. The hard-working artist and songwriter has released a handful singles, earning her acclaim from local media as well as international press including The FADER (who named her as one of the top Scandinavian artists to watch this year) and Billboard. In the latter part of 2017, Mjøen toured her home country with Astrid S, as well as at festivals such as Slottsfjell, Findings, Vill Vill Vest and Trondheim Calling. “‘Vanilla’ is in many waysa synonym for something ordinary and boring", Hanne explains, "So the song is really about wishing for more of what's good and exciting". Hanne Mjøen makes energetic pop music, boasting bombastic melody lines, emotional and sensitive lyrics and a fresh Scandinavian production sound. During the past year, she also made a name for herself writing songs for R3hab, Matisse & Sadko and Future Duper, with further exciting collaborations coming in 2018. ‘Vanilla’ is co-written and produced by Hanne, with Elsa Søllesvik (Elsa & Emilie), Sebastian "ÅSN" Aasen & Jim Bergsted. http://www.hannemjoen.com https://twitter.com/hannemjoen https://www.facebook.com/hannemjoenmusic/ https://www.instagram.com/hanne.mjoen/ Building on the legacy of David Bowie’s strong connection with Aylesbury, Friars Aylesbury is launching a petition to change the name of Aylesbury to Aylesbowie.
Following the untimely death of David Bowie on 10 January 2016, a groundswell of opinion surfaced in Buckinghamshire, England to celebrate his art in a permanent way, in recognition of the history he had with music club Friars Aylesbury. He performed the world debuts of two of the most iconic albums of the 20th century, ‘Hunky Dory’ and ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’, at Friars Aylesbury in 1971/72. He formed the Spiders from Mars in the tiny Friars dressing room and referenced Aylesbury Market Square in the first line of ‘Five Years’. “Pushing through the Market Square so many mothers sighing” Following a Kickstarter campaign, Aylesbury Market Square will become home to the world’s first sculpture of Bowie which will be unveiled at 2.00pm on Sunday 25 March. When the Kickstarter campaign finished in December 2016, one of the backers Alex Laurent, suggested changing the name of Aylesbury to Aylesbowie. David Stopps of Friars Aylesbury, the brains behind the campaign, thought this was a brilliant idea, and looked into the history and origins of the town’s name. It turns out that the town name is of Old English origin. Its first recorded name Æglesburgh is thought to mean "Fort of Ægel", presumably relating to the Iron Age hill fort that was discovered in the town centre, though who Ægel was is not recorded. Since earliest records there have been 57 variations of the town’s name, so changing the name to Aylesbowie would simply be the 58th. David Bowie obviously has a much more credible claim to the name of the town than some long forgotten and unknown Anglo-Saxon. Naming the town after him, along with the Earthly Messenger sculpture, will be a permanent celebration and commemoration of his life and work. The Friars Aylesbury team have started a petition to change the name at change.org (which can be viewed here). After the Earthly Messenger unveiling on March 25th at 2.00pm there will be a statue fundraiser concert at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, with Marillion, Howard Jones and John Otway who all hale from the Aylesbury area. Tickets are available here or from Ticketmaster. Fresh from the success of her smash 'Decline' and a BRIT Award nomination for 'Best Single' with Jax Jones, RAYE today releases brand new tune 'Cigarette' featuring Mabel and Stefflon Don. Undoubtedly three of the UK's biggest up and coming UK female artists, RAYE, Mabel and Stefflon Don smash into 2018 with the year’s most exciting collaboration to date. 'Cigarette' arrives straight off the back of three UK Top 15 singles (‘Decline’ by RAYE, ‘Finders Keepers’ by Mabel and ‘Hurtin’ Me’ by Stefflon Don). Curated by RAYE, the track sets the tone for the year ahead. 'Cigarette' is taken from an upcoming wider project set to drop in the coming months. RAYE has curated a culturally relevant collection of music featuring a number of collaborations with her artist friends. This body of work is set to solidify RAYE's status amongst her fellow pioneers of UK music. ‘Cigarette’ follows RAYE’s UK Silver certified single ‘Decline’ which is still on the Capital playlist and remained on the Radio 1 A List for a massive 8 weeks. RAYE is one of the UK's hottest new stars, spending most of 2017 performing at major festivals including Glastonbury, Latitude and V Festival. She has already racked up nearly 75 million streams of her music, and has established herself as one of the UK's 'go to' hit songwriters, working with the likes of John Legend, Charli XCX, Nas, Little Mix, Snakehips, Julia Michaels, Blood Pop, Ellie Goulding, Diplo and Naughty Boy. Starting 2018 with a bang, LCAW has revealed a brand new song ‘Hummingbird’ featuring pop superstar Sophie Ellis-Bextor. The song is out now via Columbia Germany / Ultra Music. ‘Hummingbird’ is the first single to be taken from LCAW’s debut EP ‘Meet in the Middle’, which will be released in March. The EP features all new music. Further details to be announced in due course. LCAW is the alias of Munich native Leon Weber. The 23 year old began his journey in classical music, growing up in a family of musicians and training as a Cellist and Pianist before developing into a renowned electronic producer. LCAW’s unique blend of pop and dance music has gained him support from the likes of Odesza, Martin Garrix, Robin Schulz, and Felix Jaehn. He has also turned in acclaimed remixes for the likes of London Grammar, Parov Stelar, Asaf Avidan, Fritz Kalkbrenner, Marlon Roudette, ZHU and many others. After his remixes generated more than 60 million plays on Soundcloud and YouTube, LCAW released his debut single ‘Painted Sky’ in 2016 and achieved a top 50 placement in the German airplay charts. Follow up singles ‘Man in the Moon (ft. Dagny)’, ‘Staring at the Sun (ft. Sophie Hintze)’, ’Nobody Else But You’ and ‘Desires (ft. WhoMadeWho)’ have subsequently seen him attain more than 10 million total plays worldwide, with an army of followers and fans. ‘Hummingbird’ is the result of a London studio session with Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Originally, LCAW had intended a different song for Sophie to perform, but when hearing some of the demos he’d been working on for the EP, Sophie immediately connected with another instrumental work-in-progress. LCAW said: “Hummingbird is a very personal track with a more downbeat vibe, I think this is one of the main reasons Sophie instantly felt connected to it. Her voice has such a unique character and she added a whole other dimension to what I had made before we met. We had the recording session in a small studio in Notting Hill which hosted writing sessions for the likes of Adele, James Blunt and Lana Del Rey and it felt like there was a very special atmosphere” “‘Hummingbird’ will mark the start of a fresh style for my music in 2018, a modern approach to disco & funk infused dance music and I’m very happy that Sophie is part of it. Putting together my debut EP has been an incredibly exciting time for me and I can’t wait for you to hear the results!” Sophie Ellis-Bextor said: “It was great to work with Leon who I think is very talented. We had a brilliant session and I am so happy with the way Hummingbird has turned out. It’s always exciting making new dance music and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it” Sophie Ellis-Bextor shot to fame as a vocalist on Spiller’s huge number one single ‘Groovejet' and then followed it up with ‘Take Me Home’ and her worldwide smash hit, ‘Murder on the Dancefloor'. Her solo debut album, ‘Read My Lips’ was released in 2001 and reached number two in the UK Albums Chart and certified double platinum by the BPI. The album sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. Her subsequent album releases include Shoot from the Hip (2003), Trip the Light Fantastic (2007), Make a Scene (2011). 2014’s singer/songwriter release ‘Wanderlust’ with Ed Harcourt at the helm as Co-writer and Producer was a critical and commercial, success certified Gold and spending 3 weeks in the UK top 10 album chart spawning the hit single ‘Young Blood’. Sophie followed this release and collaboration with 2016’s ‘Familia’ which saw her return to the dance floor with the radio hit ‘Come With Us’. ‘Hummingbird’ is available here: https://LCAW.lnk.to/Hummingbird Upcoming English pop singer Emily Burns releases new single 'Bitch'; out now via 37 Adventures14/1/2018 22-year old Emily Burns writes modern, ambitious, frank pop songs about relationships, spite, love and revenge. Website Norwegian pop singer Sigrid has been named 2018’s winner of the coveted BBC Music Sound Of, as chosen by a panel of more than 170 influential music experts including former winners and longlist nominees. The 21 year old, born in Ålesund, Norway, only started making music four years ago when her brother – who’s also a musician – told her he needed a new song for a gig just two weeks later. Since then she has had a rapid rise to acclaim. Her debut single 'Don't Kill My Vibe' premiered on Radio 1 in February 2017 when it was named ‘Hottest Record in the World’ and she performed her single Strangers live on BBC One’s ‘Sounds Like Friday Night’ in December. Her nervy, cutting-edge pop music is infused with natural humour and charisma and looks set to rule the charts in 2018. All of the artists on the 16-strong longlist for Sound Of 2018 were championed by BBC Radio, with plays across Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2 and 6 Music. Sigrid said on winning, “It’s a lot to take in to have won something as prestigious as BBC Music Sound Of. I feel honoured as there are so many other artists I look up to who have won this before me, and honestly, I’m just really happy and proud of what my team and I have achieved together. I’m from a small town called Ålesund in Norway. I’m still 21 and it’s quite crazy to get this recognition. I’m very excited about the year ahead and sharing new music with everyone. I want to thank the panel for voting and the team involved in BBC Music Sound Of 2018.” The BBC Sound Of 2018 longlist boasted one of the youngest ever line-ups when the top 16 was published last year. The top five, a mix of international, British, unsigned and signed acts was revealed each morning by Annie Mac on Clara Amfo’s Radio 1 show. Two of the top acts came from Manchester with urban jazz artist IAMDDB and indie quartet Pale Waves coming third and fifth respectively. American R&B star Khalid came fourth, whilst singer-songwriter Rex Orange County was 2018’s runner up. Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac said:- “Sigrid is one of those really special artists making quality, exciting and feisty - yet fragile - pop songs that are an absolute pleasure to play on the radio. Sigrid is an incredibly talented performer and songwriter and so very deserving of the Sound Of 2018 crown. I’m really looking forward to watching her rise.” Chris Price, Head of Music for BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra, said:- “I’m absolutely thrilled that Sigrid has been crowned BBC Music Sound Of 2018 winner, showing that taste-makers in the UK and internationally share the excitement that has lit up Radio 1 since ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’ was made ‘Hottest Record in the World’ last February. Following Tunes of the Week from Annie Mac, MistaJam, Scott Mills and Greg James – not to mention a Piano Session for Huw Stephens last summer – Sigrid’s new single ‘Strangers’ sits on the Radio 1 ‘A’ list, her third playlist here. Sigrid is a captivating performer and I can’t wait to introduce BBC audiences to her incredible live show, starting today in the home of live music - the Radio 1 Live Lounge” James Stirling, Head of Content Commissioning, BBC Music said:- “Many congratulations to Sigrid and to all the artists on the BBC Music Sound Of 2018 list this year. The range of artists clearly demonstrates both the quality and breadth of music currently coming through. Half the artists on the long list of 16 have been supported by BBC Music Introducing - and helping these artists reach a wider audience is a key part of BBC Music’s mission” The list, compiled annually by BBC News, started in 2003 and crowned 50 Cent as its inaugural winner. Last year, R&B singer Ray BLK became the first unsigned artist to top the list. Previous winners have included synth-pop trio Years & Years, global superstars Adele and Sam Smith, LA pop band HAIM and Ellie Goulding. Profiles of all 16 artists are available on the Sound Of 2018 website. The full top five: 1. Sigrid 2. Rex Orange County 3. IAMDDB 4. Khalid 5. Titan loppuvuoden suunnitelmat keskittyvät uusien biisien hiomiseen keikkailua unohtamatta. https://www.facebook.com/tittavirallinen/ https://www.instagram.com/titta_official/ Annie Lennox - an evening of music and conversation’ on 4th March at Sadler’s Wells Theatre11/11/2017 Annie Lennox will share thoughts, memories and reflections during a one night only event of conversation, musical performance and visual imagery on 4th March at Sadler’s Wells Theatre.
