Mt. Joy have released their new single "Bathroom Light", check it out below along with Matt's comments about the new track. The band's new album "Orange Blood" is out 17th June. "We all have a perfect expectation of how life should be. My girlfriend and I met on Instagram, and whenever I would explain that to people it made me feel like we did it wrong. Like it didn’t fit ‘the narrative.’ As we were recording, there was an untimely death of a family member in our crew. It was horribly sad and gave me that sinking reminder of how fragile everything we build is. ‘Bathroom Light’ is about chasing love however it comes into your life and working to make those around you feel comfortable in their skin. We all have crazy stories, and for the most part there is just no time to be ashamed of them." – Matt Quinn

Enigmatic Italian singer Elena Alice Fossi has released the first single, 'Devious', which is taken from the forthcoming new full-length of her dark electro project SPECTRA*Paris. Her fifth album under that moniker is entitled "Modernism" and has been slated for release on August 26.
SPECTRA*Paris comment: "What's the moral conduct to follow?", singer, composer, and lyricist Elena Alice Fossi asks. "This song certainly won't teach us any morals! With a decidedly noir matrix and via its gloomy lyrics, it lets itself be crossed by a glamorous imprint where the blood goes to be combined with the enchanting reflection of a bewitching shadow. God's body has indeed been invaded by his servants."
Charismatic, enigmatic, and absolutely outstanding, singer Elena Alice Fossi, who is best known for her work with Italian electro-trailblazers Kirlian Camera, presents "Modernism", the fifth album of her eclectic project SPECTRA*Paris. "Modernism" is transfiguring electronic music through the prism of Elena’s voice and several collaborations with other musicians into a beautiful kaleidoscope of stylistic colours ranging from EBM, future pop, dark electronic, art pop, and various influences more. Among the artists that gladly followed Elena's call are KIRLIAN CAMERA mastermind ANGELO BERGAMINI, PROJECT PITCHFORK, SEASURFER, legendary producer JOHN FRYER, who worked with DEPECHE MODE and NINE INCH NAILS alongside many others, JOHN ROX & OXYDION, African singer-songwriter FAKEBA, and guitarist and producer MICHAEL CIRAVOLO (BEAUTY IN CHAOS, HUMAN DRAMA). "Modernism" in a way is a musical child that was born out of the isolation that was imposed on Northern Italy during the pandemic. To cage a tigress like Elena and to separate her from the beloved stages and music performances probably had to result into something consequential and massive. With "Modernism" the singer and composer turned something horrible into something wonderful in a process that was liberating and empowering at the same time. Elena trapped into the SPECTRA*Paris songs all the notes that absorb her fears, her astonishment, and her sense of confusion into what she calls "a weird concoction of melancholy and rhythm". The episodic character of "Modernism" that may also be viewed as musical glimpses into a personal diary penned by Elena during her isolation is complemented and underlined by the beautiful artwork that accompanies the album. The photographer's lens becomes a keyhole through which the observer might peek into most intimate moments of the artist's life. SPECTRA*Paris was conceived as an electronic rock oriented project in the wake Elena's previous project SIDERARTICA. In 2007 she self-released the ultra-rare promo 3" CD-R limited to 25 copies "Spectra Murder Show" and immediately got picked-up by a label, which led to the acclaimed first album "Dead Models Society (Young Ladies Homicide Club)" hitting the streets in the same year. The debut reached the charts in many countries and went up to gold. Elena followed-up with two successful albums in 2010, "License to Kill" and "Christmas Ghouls". Tracks from these recordings as well as the latest album "Retromachine Betty" (2017) have been used in tv and catwalk soundtracks. With "Modernism", SPECTRA*Paris chronicle Elena Alice Fossi's musical prison-break into the freedom that only true art can grant. Aided by her accomplice and long-time friend Angelo Bergamini, who co-produced and supervised every sound in this chapter, the composer and singer has delivered a fascinating personal statement via a wide range of electronic music. Hailing from the outskirts of Copenhagen, rock-trio The Doves deliver hard hitting drum grooves and dirty guitar riffs, combined with sexy vocals and catchy hooks. After releasing 'Stay in my Place' in March, the trio now follow up with the brand new single ‘Nobody's Beautiful On The Inside'.
“This song mostly looks back at the past 2 years – and is about some of the dark thoughts that naturally come up in one’s mind when the world gets thrown into chaos. Which is also the reason that this song was quite hard to write”, vocalist Josh Grant explains. The Doves consists of the three members; Josh Grant, Neil Fitzpatrick and Patrick Bøgelund, who have shared the stage for over 10 years while accumulating a ton of experience from the rock- and metal scene. With the simple outset of exploring what three people can create together musically, the trio draws inspiration from a range of different styles - from the raw and offhand riffings of Royal Blood and Canadian Reignwolf, to the more polished and grand compositions of Muse and Nothing But Thieves. With high ambitions, The Doves are getting ready to make their mark on the alternative rock scene with the coming catchy and compelling singles. The new single 'Nobody's Beautiful on the Inside’ is already available on all streaming services through Prime Collective. Australian pop punk duo 3REE have released a performance video for their new single ‘Set This Place On Fire’, which features guest vocals from Sleeping With Sirens frontman Kellin Quinn. The high energy rock track tackles the pressures of 2022 and the increasing strains on identity, belonging and on longevity of life on the planet. ‘Set This Place On Fire’ finds 3REE bringing their pop laced hooks with hardcore beatdowns to complement the signature alt-metal screaming from Sleeping With Sirens’ Kellin Quinn. Since its release last month, ‘Set This Place On Fire’ has received huge acclaim with the likes of Rock Sound touting it as, “A riotous anthem… dripping in mountain high melodies, soaring riffs and plenty of gritty atmosphere,” while Kerrang championed the track in the Top 10 of their Kerrang Chart. The track has also proved a TikTok hit, with fans creating viral videos sound tracked to the song’s opening bars. About the meaning of the song 3REE vocalist and guitarist Mitch Volcan says:- “We built the song around the lyric ‘When the fire burns out we all come alive’; writing with the aim of connecting with the listener with the sense of rawness, energy and togetherness that you face during dark times.” The duo is completed by drummer Sean Tighe and since the band’s formation in 2019, with the release of their self-titled debut album that year, they have been quick to draw attention from further high profile names in rock. They are managed and mentored by iconic pop punk manager Rick DeVoe, who managed Blink 182 for over 20 years and has worked with New Found Glory, Angels & Airwaves and more. 3REE have also caught the eye of Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and former Panic! At The Disco drummer Spencer Smith. The attention came via a mashup of the band’s tracks 3REE posted on their Instagram, which impressed Pete and Spencer so much it prompted them to reach out to 3REE. A relationship sparked and Pete and Spencer both now also help mentor the Aussie pop punks. 3REE have made a huge statement with ‘Set This Place On Fire’ and the future burns bright for the pair as they gear up for more exciting announcements to follow in 2022. The 1975 have released two new photos, taken by collaborator Samuel Bradley, and have marked July 7th as a significant date for the band in advance of their fifth studio album. The 1975 have established themselves as one of the most exciting bands of the moment; sonically singular with an astounding fanbase, they have created their own lane in music culture. Formed in Manchester in 2002, they have been nominated for a monumental 44 Awards, winning 11, including NME’s Band of the Decade in 2020 and two Brit awards for Best Group. They have had four number one albums in the UK and have led the way for many other aspiring bands due to their era defining sound. Their most recent album, 2020’s Notes on a Conditional Form, became their fourth consecutive No 1. Album in the UK. The band will make their live comeback as the headliners of Japan’s biggest rock festival Summer Sonic 2022, taking place in the cities of Tokyo and Osaka on 20th and 21st August. https://the1975.com/ https://twitter.com/the1975 https://www.instagram.com/the1975 www.instagram.com/trumanblack Psychedelic rock band Stoned Jesus is now releasing their first track "Porcelain" via Season of Mist. This new track is accompanied by a music video Stoned Jesus created themselves and can be viewed via the official Season of Mist channel HERE. The link can be freely spread throughout your channels. "Porcelain" can be pre-saved HERE. Lead vocalist and guitarist Igor comments: "Porcelain" was one of the last songs I brought to my bandmates for the upcoming album, and they loved it instantly! In fact, we all loved this track so much we decided we'd play it live even before the album's out, so now it makes all the sense releasing it as a single. People told me it sounds like 2000s Porcupine Tree covering 2010s Swans but to me it's just another amazing chapter in the Stoned Jesus songbook. Hope you'll enjoy it too!" The song is taken from the band’s new upcoming album which will be released via Season of Mist. Stay tuned for the release date! Formed by Igor Sydorenko in Kyiv in 2009, Stoned Jesus quickly progressed beyond their tongue-in-cheek moniker. The Ukrainian trio's second full length "Seven Thunders Road" converged doom, prog and grunge in their own recognizable way and the album's centrepiece, 13-min long "I'm the Mountain", boasts 15 million plays on YouTube. Stoned Jesus's next LP "The Harvest" sounded like a blend of Mastodon, Porcupine Tree and Soundgarden, and their charismatic live shows and relentless touring schedule helped to double and then triple their fanbase in mere months. While being integral to the European psychedelic rock scene Stoned Jesus helped popularize, creatively Stoned Jesus never stopped pushing the envelope, taking influences for their newer material from such diverse acts like Swans, The Cure, King Crimson and Deftones. M.I.A 2022 TOUR DATES
‘The One’ is out everywhere now. WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM | TWITTER | YOUTUBE Singer-songwriter Mabel has announced plans for second album ‘About Last Night…’, which will be released on Polydor Records on July 15th. The immersive project was teased last week with new track ‘Overthinking’ (ft. 24kGoldn), and features euphoric first single ‘Let Them Know’, ‘Good Luck’ & more to come. ‘About Last Night….’ follows the Brit Award winner’s debut album ‘High Expectations’, which saw Mabel’s catalogue surpass 4.5 billion streams, 8 million singles sold (and twelve top 20s) plus 2.5 million adjusted album sales. With festivals this summer including Radio 1’s Big Weekend also kicking off, Mabel has announced plans for a special headline show at London’s Somerse House on July 17th to celebrate the launch of ‘About Last Night…’. Tickets are available now when pre-ordering the album, before pre-sale opens on May 31st and general sale begins on June 1st. Conceived by Mabel as the world went into lockdown – and completed as life IRL picks up pace – ‘About Last Night...’ is a vivid and hyperreal journey from the anticipated beginnings to the messy end of the best night out that never was. Each track transports the minutiae– getting ready to go out; feeling invincible; clocking an ex; crying in the bathroom; stumbling home – and transforms the normality into the magical. Throughout, Mabel once again switches up her effortless way with modern pop: influences span the liberated euphoria of noughties club-culture (dance-pop, house, transatlantic R&B) with deeper themes of expression and inclusion as gained from obsessively re-watching ‘Paris Is Burning’, ‘Pose’ and ‘Drag Race’ during lockdown. It’s this emotional space that (in Mabel’s own words) “brought her back to life” – here is a young woman processing her own, life-changing formative years growing up in the public eye, and taking charge of her narrative through this fantastical space. The feel-good blueprint of ‘About Last Night’ was conceived between Mabel’s West London home, Angelic studios in Oxford, and some of Los Angels’ most inspiring creative spaces (including the former hilltop residence of Frank Sinatra). Early on in the process, Mabel began to assemble a collective of creatively aligned collaborators including friends and frequent song writing partners Raye, MNEK, Kamille and Jax Jones. Impressed by his work with childhood hero Robyn on ‘Impact’, Mabel also teamed up with new faces like SG Lewis, before completing the project between lockdowns in the US with collaborators from pop’s top table: Stargate (Rihanna, Katy Perry), Tommy Brown (Ariana Grande, Victoria Monet), Jozzy (Beyoncé, Lil Nas X) and Aldae (Justin Bieber). Mabel first teased what she had been working on with first single ‘Let Them Know – an unapologetic anthem about dressing up with nowhere to go, and projecting confidence for anyone who needs it. ‘Good Luck’ distilled influences of heartbreak and female solidarity into perfectly realised pop, before the darker side of ‘About Last Night…’ was previewed on ‘Overthinking’: an escapist but unflinchingly honest snapshot of when nightlife meets social anxiety, and how to find your way back to yourself. The Mabel of 2022 is a young woman living in full and self-actualised power, intent on making music that will empower anyone who needs it. ‘About Last Night...’ focuses on the tiny, fleeting choices that constitute a big night out - but also those decisions that can be truly life-changing. Here is a record essentially about learning to live for the moment, and the hard-won wisdom that whatever there is to say ‘About Last Night…’ can wait until tomorrow, when the sun will come up again. Swedish forest rockers Besvärjelsen have released their second full-length "Atlas" on Friday, May 27th. 'Atlas' is now streaming in full at this link: https://youtu.be/bHqMVItfo2Q?list=PLQt8FdY4rmOsFtbZCLlaPhYeaOW4zntyk Besvärjelsen have previously released a three-part 'The Making of Atlas' that is also available for publication:
Besvärjelsen comment: "27th May we celebrate the release of 'Atlas'! Singer Lea Amling Alazam enthuses:- "We would like to use this opportunity to give very big thanks to everyone who helped make this beautiful piece of music come together. We also send huge thanks to our label Magnetic Eye Records and its manager Jadd as well as to Studio Gröndahl and Karl Daniel Lidén for the great sound. And last but never least, we would like to thank everybody from the bottom of our hearts who is listening to 'Atlas' and has given us their support! See you all on the road!"
What to do when you like rock and doom born from the desert but your surroundings offer anything but arid lands? Besvärjelsen found an impressive answer in the grim forests of their homeland in Dalarna, Sweden. Having grown up in the far north at the meeting grounds of ancient Norse and Finnish cultures amongst echoes of runes and gods, shamans and spirits, the spellbinding five-piece crafted their name from the Swedish word for "conjuring" while drawing heavy inspiration from local lore, mysticism, and the dark, old musical traditions. Yet Besvärjelsen are anything but another "pagan" outfit longing for a time that never was. On their sophomore full-length "Atlas", aptly named after the mythical Greek titan who literally carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, the Swedes take a huge step toward the perfect wedding of melodic doom with subtle touches of prog as well as punk, folk, and classic rock. The distinctly urban component in the sound of these rockers is very much amplified by the outstanding vocals of Lea Amling Alazam. The charismatic singer took a fresh approach by embracing melodies and phrases of the grunge and emo sounds that defined her youth as well as African and Middle Eastern music – while keeping her characteristic bluesy undertones. With its wistful melodies and towering riff-power, "Atlas" represents a logical progression along the course that Besvärjelsen charted from the start. The band was co-founded by guitarists and vocalists Andreas Baier and Staffan Stensland Vinrot in 2014 with a clear vision to channel the spirit and traditions of the vast Dalarna forests, a region otherwise famous for its painted wooden horses, into contemporary heavy music. Andreas, coming from a background in punk and hardcore, had realised that by slowing things down, the music of Besvärjelsen would gain in depth while allowing haunting melodies to exist alongside a cathartic heaviness. Once vocalist Lea Amling Alazam arrived with a fiery passion for punk and stoner rock that had begun at the local skate park when she was just counting 13 years, Andreas and Staffan happily relegated their shared vocal duties to a supporting role – an easy choice as Lea's distinctive voice summoned the intimacy and charisma of singers like Nina Simone or Amy Winehouse. Besvärjelsen released their debut EP "Villfarelser" a year later in 2015, which was followed quickly by the "Exil" EP in 2016. Around this time, former Dozer and Greenleaf drummer Erik Bäckwall joined the line-up as a permanent member. Both EPs, though self-financed and released with minimal promotion, were well-received and even gained airplay on Swedish national radio. The Swedes' debut full-length "Vallmo" hit the streets of Stockholm and elsewhere in 2018, shortly after Erik had convinced his Dozer and Greenleaf bandmate Johan Rockner to join Besvärjelsen on bass. "Vallmo" merged crushing riffs and storming drums with increasingly sophisticated melodies and thoughtful themes, which even earned the band a festival slot opening for Deep Purple. With the mini-album "Frost", Besvärjelsen intended to crush stages all over Europe in 2019, before being compelled into involuntary live performance hibernation (like every other band around the globe) for two years. Although forced to write separately, the band used the spare time to compile a wealth of ideas, amassed remotely and shared across the miles and months of relative solitude, which would finally result in the recording of "Atlas" with producer Karl Daniel Lidén in 2021. Re-purposing melancholic harmonies that could have been derived from the playbook of Alice In Chains, adding gravity that would make Windhand proud, and topping their upgraded sound with exciting yet intimate vocal lines, Besvärjelsen have carved a towering monolith from solid rock and planted it firmly into the magical woods of their homeland to send its heavy lay-lines around the globe. The court found that the Gibson Trademarks are valid, the Gibson shapes are not generic, and the defendants were guilty of both infringement and counterfeiting. Gibson is very pleased with the outcome after years of simply trying to protect their brand and business through well recognized intellectual property rights, rights that have been Gibson’s for decades. Gibson’s guitar shapes are iconic, and now are firmly protected for the past, present, and future. From a broader perspective, this court decision is also a win for Gibson Fans, Artists, Dealers, and related Partners who expect and deserve authenticity. Not to mention for all of the iconic American brands that have invested in meaningful innovation and continued protection, only to see it diluted with unauthorized and often illegitimate knockoffs. Gibson can now focus attention on continuing to leverage its iconic past, and invest in future innovation, with confidence. |
